Xfire Sues IGN/GameSpy
November 2nd, 2006 by Darren Stevens in Business, Multiplayer, Online, PC, Software
Xfire, the gaming IM and multiplayer service, is suing GameSpy/IGN Entertainment’s “Comrade” service, claiming it infringes its own PC software. Xfire claims that “Comrade” uses a feature called “Buddy Sync”, which, according to Xfire, could “steal” its users and hard the company. IGN responded to the allegations by saying
“Xfire’s case is clearly a thinly veiled attempt to hijack Electronic Arts’ release of Battlefield 2142, after EA decided to incorporate IGN’s Comrade program in Battlefield 2142 instead of [Xfire],”
The lawsuit came the day before the release of Battlefield 2142, which stopped using Xfire’s service and switched over to IGN/GameSpy.
