PS3 Scams Continue In Europe
November 8th, 2006 Posted in Business
Since there will most likely be severe PlayStation 3 shortages at launch, scammers have tried to trick people into buying or pre-ordering non-existent PS3 consoles in the States. Not apparently they moved to the UK, promising gamers a PlayStation 3 this Christmas, although the console officially launches in March 2007.
This time though, the trick is to get people to call them, as recent ads spotted read “PlayStation 3–Order now for Christmas”. People are then supposed to call them for £1.50 a minute, where they are asked to “stay online” (of course). The UK number starts with 0906, the equivalent to 1-900 numbers in the US.

Unless you pre-ordered, there’s no way you’re getting a PS3 in 2006, regardless of where you live.

Wrong. You can buy one on ebay from everyone who got a preorder. I’ve yet to see someone with a pre-order who isn’t selling it. Figures.
