Child’s Play Charity Kicks Off
November 10th, 2006 by Kevin Cortez in News
Officials of Child’s Play Charity, organized by the same folks who brought you the Penny Arcade web-comics, have announced that they have begun its annual toy and video game drive today. The drive is attempting to raise money from a charity auction dinner and selling Child’s Play shirts and holiday cards. The proceeds will be donated to hospitals within the Child’s Play network.
The charity has raised $82,100 from the charity dinner, and over $420,000 from the actual drive. This year’s dinner will be happening on Wednesday, December 13. In total, Child’s Play has raised almost 1.2 million dollars in toys, books, movies, games, and game systems for sick children in hospitals, all around the world.
Penny Arcade’s Robert Khoo has commented:
“There are so many gamers out there with big hearts. The grassroots Child Play initiative that started out in Seattle has grown now to include hospitals across the U.S. as well as international locations from Canada to Egypt. It gives me yet another reason to be proud to say ‘I’m a gamer.’
