Nintendo has said they will spend around $200 million on Wii marketing campaigns in order to compete with the PS3 and Xbox360. The advertising campaign will be the biggest for Nintendo yet, with the first TV ads airing tomorrow (watch it here).

The $200 million, spent over the next 12 months, will generally be used for ads targeting the adult and non-gamer demographics.

Analysts from Deutsche Bank predict that Nintendo will sell 1,5 million Wii units in North America this year, compared to 2,3 million Xbox360 consoles and 500,000 PlayStation 3 consoles. Other analysts think that Nintendo will sell over 2 million Wiis this years, while the PS3 sales could reach as much as 1,5 million.

That should get thigs started for sure! I’ve already spoted Wii billboards and TV ads, and I doubt anyone has missed them online.

i watched some preview videos on nintendos site, and it looks pretty exciting. i really want to try the bowling game!

All this hype is making me want to run out and pick up a new next-gen console … this is definitely the most exciting time of the year for gamers.

^^^And non-gamers like myself. I got bored of video games some years ago, but ever since I have heard of the Wii with it’s innovative controller, I’ve been keeping my eye on it. Better graphics are good enough for me to watch cut scenes on a youtube video, but not enough to get me interested in playing the games. I have a good feeling that the Wii will dominate this generation.

^^You may be right … my cousin who is not really much of a gamer and my Mother who doesn’t game at all were both pretty impressed by the Wii commercials I showed them. And my Mother who is in her 50s was giggling and laughing the whole time like a kid in a candy shop. Any console that makes that kind of impression on my mother (Gears didn’t do anything for here when I showed her that on my 360) has got to be taken seriously. :)
Plus I know some people who will be in line at a store and they said there is no 1 per customer limit on the Wii like the PS3 so he’s going to pick one up for me if I decide to get one right away. I know I should wait but I enjoy all the energy a launch brings and being able to be among the first to play and discuss the games is always cool.

    Hmmmm…

I know there is a 1 per customer limit on reserving the Wii. At least that is what the guy at a local Gamestop told me.

  7. Anuban Says:

Oh okay … I didn’t know that … I thought since there were so many of them that Best Buy wouldn’t care but that’s cool … just means that if I decide I do want to get one at launch I’ll have to stand in line as well. So it looks like I won’t be getting a Wii anytime soon afterall. :) But looks can be deceiving ;)

At one point I think it’s a bit waste of money, as Nintendo more or less already has won this next console war before it even started. But what do I know about business?

  9. amjiva Says:

Anuban, they just told me that you can only reserve 1 Wii. That doesn’t mean you can’t buy more than 1, necessarily. I imagine that if all the reservers get theirs and then there are more left, then they’ll let whoever buy whatever.

  10. Anuban Says:

Yeah … I admit I am a bit caught up in all the excitement this week … but to be perfectly honest I don’t see myself getting a another console until March of next year. By then many kinks should be worked out and availability shouldn’t be an issue ANYWHERE.
