GameStop Can’t Fill PS3 Pre-orders
According to GameSpot, games retailer GameStop will not be able to fulfill all PS3 pre-orders. Apparently the company will receive only about half of the consoles, leaving many gamers who put down an extra $100 waiting for the second shipment. A company representative told GameSpot:
“We are beginning to notify our customers that our initial shipment of PS3 systems will not be what we expected. As this is not an ideal situation, we are asking employees to wait to purchase systems until the second shipment. We are anticipating having systems to cover reservations before Christmas.”
The unlucky ones who pre-ordered will get a free used DVD or game (under $20) when they eventually manage to get a PS3. GameStop also asked employees to wait buying a console until the pre-orders are fulfilled.

Many would point out that the 360 had similar problems but I would retort … Sony watched all this happen (to an extent) to MS last year … what is up with having an entire year to get a launch right and STILL NOT being able to do so? It is just unfathomable I don’t care what kind of technical delays they are falling back on. An entire year to do it right after watching such a horrible launch (boring titles, system shortages, lots and lots of dead systems) … but no … we are seeing the EXACT same thing … actually even worse!
Okay so we won’t know how many systems will be DOA or go dead within days, for a little while but so far they are on track for having one of the worst system launches I have witnessed in my 30 plus years of gaming.

The Wii is getting DVD playback afterall … just waiting for this place to post the news. Maybe I should do the news posting around here. Seems like I beat you guys to the punch on plenty of things.
See the article at Gamestop … I would put the link in but I am tired of the awaiting moderation stuff. I saw this coming … I was one of the main people around here complaining about lack of DVD player even if you have a bunch .. if the others are offering the feature you just have to as well … and so they have or will be in 2007.

well in Sony’s defense, I’m pretty sure blue-rays are hard to manufacture regardless of a year latestart

In fairness this is probably paritally the retailers fault, they all jump the gun and take way too many preorders before they know what allocation they are getting.
From a retailers point of view they would rather have a slightly pissed off consumer buy PS3 with them 2 weeks after launch than refuse the preorder and have them go to another shop. All they have to do is blame the manufacturer

Man! Who could’ve seen this coming.
