Wii Ads Make TV Debut Tonight

November 15th, 2006 Posted in Business

Nintendo Wii
Nintendo has announced that the first Wii ad on TV will make its debut today on the popular show, Dancing With the Stars. The ad marks the beginning of Nintendo’s 200 million dollar (the largest ever) marketing campaign. Instead of targeting solely young gamers, Nintendo will be aiming to win over large numbers of adults/non-gamers with their ad campaign.

The ads, directed by Stephen Gaghan (who wrote/directed Syriana), depict a pair of Japanese men showing off the capabilities of the Wii to families across the US. We showed the YouTube version of the ad a few days ago, check it out again after the jump.

I love that damn commercial … it always succeeds in making me want to go out and get a Wii … at least for a day or two. “Wii would like to play” … I just love that ad slogan. it is miles ahead of “jump in” and whatever Sony’s unmemorable slogan is. Whoever their ad agency is that place will win a Clio. Watch.

Ahh that would explain it … yeah hopefully .. that commercial is just plain FUN and in gaming it really is FUN that matters.

Man after reading the reviews for Zelda on the Wii I might have to get one … that game sounds like some serious fun and the length of the campaign means tons of value … yeah this may be the one afterall. I may not be able to wait until next year afterall.
