Sounds like most of these places are still hung up on Gears ... I don't know ... I expected RFoM to score higher actually ... It looks to be more a pleasurable time actually. Gears imo, as a true Epic fanboy and longtime Unreal Engine enthusiast, is a bit over hyped and as great as it is in many places there are some flaws with the mechanics that can really make playing by yourself (no human co-op) very frustrating. And the story is really not well presented in this first chapter in the Gears saga. Plus it really seems the game is designed as to almost force people to play co-op and for me gaming is pretty much a solitary affair ... especially shooters and there are plenty of people like me who don't like playing online because of the online atmosphere. So that aspect really annoys me as well. At least with RFoM I wouldn't have such concerns.

Still I am glad that it is the recognized best shooter around atm but as much as I like all things Epic usually, I've been waiting for Gears since May 2004 and I just feel a slight bit underwhelmed by everything but the presentation and the actual enemy AI. Your friendly AI is usually pretty damn dumb on and that gets old fast having to always heal them because they charge in to quickly.

This is making me want to get a PS3 just so I can see for myself what game is really better and if the reviewers are indeed being biased as I suspect. I know it sounds wierd for ME to be sticking up for RFoM over Gears but I was let down to be honest and I really feel that the media is being a bit too easy on Epic just because the presentation itself is so close to perfection. I mean the game has received 8 perfect 10 scores which is absurd really. I doubt even Zelda gets that many and I know that game is probably a lot more fun and more innovative given the use of the Wii controller. So yeah I'm not really feeling all that love Gears is just rolling around in but I am glad it is perceived as the best overall shooter just because I look forward to working with the UE3 engine as a UT2K7 modder.

Anyway just some initial feelings on the matter ... I do need to actually play the game in order to do a far comparison between the two shooters myself ... but I can already see RFoM is more my style of shooter in terms of gameplay ... so really for me it is a case of which is greater ... graphics or gameplay ... that is what it comes down between these two titles (plus we all have to admit Gears does have the more advanced enemy AI) ... it will be interesting to see where I really land.
