That ambitious Reggie Fils-Aime, the American president of Nintendo, has set a very high goal for the Wii. He has revealed that he expects to land 1 million Wiis in the hands of North American consumers in the upcoming 2-3 weeks. He goes on to say that they hope to sell another million by the second week of January.
He added that he expects the console life cycle for the Wii to be 5-6 years, which he feels is “just about right”. He also later states that they are not including a DVD player, as they feel that people already have at least one in their home by now, he ties this in with talks about how Nintendo made the Wii to maximize profits, in comparison to the other manufacturers who are taking losses on their consoles.

2They will have about 2 million under their belts sold (easily) by year end. Then another 1 million in the first week of the year isn’t a big deal; it’s not that ambitious, and it perfectly attainable.
Xbox 360 didn’t do too well in Japan, and its going to take 3 or 4 years for the PS3 to get off of it’s feet and into the competitive world. In the meantime, we could see Nintendo win this console war by default.

Do you now how stupid… how stultifying… how groundless …. how vain … your post was? 1 million in one week is not ambitious? No, it isn’t ambitious, it isn’t vaunting, it isn’t even over-zealous; a million in a week is delusional. The Wii is selling well because it is the cheapest console out this season, not because it is superior, not because it has the best support. Microsoft is going to win this console war, and that view is corroborated by the fact that it has the best online service; where Nintendo and Sony are only imitating it. My perspective on this matter is based upon Microsoft’s sales out of the gate. By the end of the year, they had sold 2 million. Nintendo will not achieve this. In January, the fire starts to die out, and Sony begins to ship out more consoles. It’s proven: if there were more PS3s, the world wouldn’t have to buy some cheap hunk of plastic.

4“It’s proven: if there were more PS3s, the world wouldn’t have to buy some cheap hunk of plastic.” That circumstance better suits the 360’s state this year. And sure, the Wii is selling well because it’s the cheapest, but not ONLY because it’s the cheapest. There have been thousands of instances reported of where gamers who didn’t anticipate buying a system, did because they love the idea of it. I highly doubt Microsoft is going to win for the sole face that their online service is the best (and it damn-well better be the best if they’re going to charge me $60 dollars a year). “In January, the fire starts to die out, and Sony begins to ship out more consoles.” Oh cool, you have psychcic powers too.

5Peter: Wtf are you talking about man? Are you saying, that all the hype that has sorrounded the Wii since E3 2006 was only because of it’s pricetag? Is that why it is selling so well, and people like it so much? Boy, what have you’ve been eating for breakfast? The Wii is the most hyped system ever, there is no doubt about that. And the reason is the FUN factor of the system. NOT the price

6I have to agree with Kaiser to a certain degree . the Wii will sell well because its “Fun” and cheaper then the rest, but most hyped ummm I have to ride with Sony on that one even though the Wii stole some of their shine at E3 well most of it. I still havent see nobody shot over a console and running people over in stores like they did to get a Ps3 all that chaos alone makes it win the most hyped console by far. I mean they were tryin to kill each other tryin to get one of those thangs lmfao . I think its really to soon to tell who will win, even though the Wii will sell well people are still gonna buy the 360/Ps3 when price drops come and when more Ps3’s are on the shelves. I think fun is cool but graphics will start to come into mind when fun gets old.

7“I think fun is cool but graphics will start to come into mind when fun gets old.”
I know what you mean, but I just cant see that happen. The history of the DS shows that nobody really gives a damn about graphics. Even brain age still sells very well. Who in their right mind would ever had thought that a year ago

9Wow, Peter; have you even SEEN the Wii? Have you played it?
Maybe you have, and you are not impressed by the Wii because you are just the most pretentious gamer on the planet. I have been playing video games since the days of Commodore and Atari, and I can tell you that while graphics are fun, graphics are not enough to make me sit through and play a game that is not FUN. If I can’t enjoy it, what the hell is the point? If the game is fun, then no amount of hideously bad graphics will keep me away! (I’m sure I’m not the only one - why else would people still play classic Mario games, Space Invaders, and the like?) If all I am looking for is eye-candy, then I will put on a movie.
