Gears Of War Already Sells One Million Copies
November 22nd, 2006 by Steve Reddish in ArticlesTwo weeks after the release of the much anticipated Gears of War, Microsoft announced that Gears has already surpassed the one million mark for sales, something that Microsoft had hoped would happen by the end of the year, let alone two weeks. This makes Gears of War the fastest selling title in 2006, topping the charts in US and Europe. From Teamxbox:
“The game has also become the most-played Xbox Live game as more than 850,000 unique gamers have engaged in 10 million gameplay sessions while unlocking an impressive 7 million Achievements. Microsoft also believes that the game has driven new members to the network, as paid registrations per day have skyrocketed more than 50 percent since the game’s launch.”
This is very impressive, and should push other developers to work hard, build hype, and deliver a game just as Epic did.

Yeah that’s not hard to do when MS is on your side and they are doing as much as they can to help market your IP.

Bah … get the game and play it and you’ll see that there is something really wrong with those reviews .. this is one time I DON’T care what anyone says … this game is …ahhh why even bother … If people like it fine … Me I can’t understand it at all; other than the fact the presentation is so amazing. But gameplay is lacking … as is originality and a solid story … plus how can anyone make any connection whatsoever to the main characters … they are just steriod blown macho man stereotypes who lack any depth whatsoever.
I really believe there is something sinister happening to secure Gears gets GOTY over Zelda. But I have no proof and I could well be 100% wrong on all of this. So be it if I am.

Anuban you are right qabout this game being nothing more then the total amazing presentatio; i.e. nothing original. But it is fun and theres one other thing you forgot,
Lack of HALO for the junkies…
all the HALO peeps are on this right now to hold them over untill H3.

Why do I get the feeling that Gears of War is just a big lie. It’s just a big hype machine to sell 360s. I just don’t think that Gears deserves all the praises it gets. I feel like it’s a Halo3 appetizer.
I don’t believe that Gears is better than Zelda through a storyline and gameplay standpoint. I don’t know man. I just don’t know.

epic showed what a game is supposed to do for a console.. the game not only sold at an alarming rate, it also brought new recruits into the online gaming scene. i haven’t even played it and im impressed. I can’t lie. since GOW came out i’ve been really contemplating on getting an Xbox 360. but they’re going to need more than one or two killer titles to get into my pockets..

Well that is an astute and totally correct observation on your part … Play it though … on hardcore by yourself and then tell me what you think. And try not to be overwhelmed by the visuals. I used to constantly hear (especially from the Unreal Community) how gameplay was greater than graphics … and then this beautiful mess of a game came along and turned 90% of the gamers I know and am acquainted with into raging hypocrites. It is really driving me crazy … I haven’t been able to get myself to load up this game in about a week now. I just want to Puke everytime my suicidal AI squads goes charging into battle with weak underpowered weapons and typical macho dialogue (which is flat btw).
What really just eats me up alive is how much I was hyping this title to everyone I knew since summer 2004 … and all I got back was so what if it looks good it’s still just another shooter. Now I am probably the most vocal critic and I wanted to like this game more than anyone. I mean at one point I was one of the top Epic fanboys around. Let me once again remind folks that I was the Project Leader for HaloUT .. an UT2K4 mod. So I was really looking forward to this release and the chance to see UE3 in action from Epic themselves … actually I am still looking forward to UT2K7 just so I can do a new TC mod … but still this game let me down on so many levels as drop dead gorgeous as it is I want a DIVORCE … if you catch my meaning.

And it is Gears not GoW or GOW … that is reserved for the awe-inspiring game God of War … which came way before this mess. Talk about a great game … if this game deserves a 95% and 12 perfect scores then GoW deserved at least 10x that amount. I mean Kratos alone completely overshadows the Gearheads … all of them. And the story and gameplay was nothing short of perfect. There will never be another game to match that one … well maybe GoW 2 and 3
but sadly I will never have the chance to play them. DAMN YOU SONY DAMN YOU TO HELL.

GoW is created by the team at Santa Monica … SCEA so there is ZERO possibility of GoW 2 or 3 ever being on another platform … which is why I am so blue. I gave up my PS2 but I can’t seem to part with the actual game or the memory card with my games stored on it.
