PSOne Download Prices Announced
November 22nd, 2006 by Gibran Nawaz in Business, E3
Sony revealed during E3 2006 that you would be able to download PSOne games to your PSP for a fee. Now, they have revealed the pricing; $5.99 and $10.99, while weighing in between 140MB and 550MB, so you better have a decent Memory Stick. Although, a PS3 is required to download the games, as you are supposed to download the game onto the hard drive first, then copy to your PSP. The games will be released through the PlayStation Store within the next few weeks. See which Japanese games can be purchased after the jump.

Sony’s answer to the Virtual console?

I guess but does anyone know how big the Virtual Console games are(size-wise)?

Not very big. The ROM for Super Mario 64 was only 8MB. Perfect Dark was 36MB. It’s pretty impressive what they can do with so little.

who has seen this? http://kk.kema.at/files/kkrieger-beta.zip
Remember, it’s 96k!!

Wow.. That’s incredible.
Takes up over 280mb of ram though.

yeah it generates a lot of stuff… but even so, it’s insane how it’s so small. Even NES games are a fair bit larger than that.

Ah I see. That makes sence. Still.. 96kb isn’t really that much information.

Well yeah, you’ve got the engine (and it’s effects), the level, the models (including enemies, pickups, ammo, HUD guns), the projectiles, the textures (which are VERY highly detailed, with bumpmaping), the sounds, the music, the intro sequence, the HUD, and the menus/fonts all in that tiny 96k. It blows me away…

Some of the textures are repeated, but not much. The biggest space consumer would be the sound, and there’s quite a few different sounds in there. Well done to them. Just shows that you don’t need 50gb for a game.

Normally a single texture in a game would take up more than 96k!

Yeah, let alone also having bumpmaps and spec maps etc
