PSP Sales Up 280 Percent (Says Sony)

November 29th, 2006 Posted in Articles, Business, Portable

psp.gifBecause of the massive PlayStation 3 shortages, sales of PS2 and PSP units are rising, according to Sony’s David Karraker. He said that the top five retailers have been reporting of PS2 sales increase of 115% over the Thanksgiving period, while PSP sales were up a whopping 280% during the same period. On the software side, PS2 game sales rose 120% while PSP game sales were up 168%. Regarding the PS3, no sales figures were released by Sony, although Karraker added that all PS3 units are sold out (big surprise) and that more are on the way (even bigger surprise).

Official Sony quote: “You’d have to be desperate to buy a PSP and this just goes to prove it! In light of this new discovery we have taken the decision to produce no more PS3 hardware for the next two years to further drive sales of our failing handheld.”

    ruin3d is that true?

  3. Kaiser Soze Says:

That’s official Monir. Just take a look a Sony’ official website

  4. Jim2k Says:

Hehe Ruin3d, remember the old E5 2005 closeup pics of the PS3, showing 3 LAN ports and 2 HDMI ports? Not to mention all the other wild claims.

All in all, Sony produces some decent hardware, the PSP is a great piece of technology, but no-one really needs it, no one needs the Blu-ray either.

that & Jesus Christ is packed with each P$P… like the Bad Religion song “Flat Earth Society”, lie lie lie…

  6. Quartecks Says:

Well of course the sales are going up! (everyone turns and stares at the usually critical Quartecks) it’s not like the sale could have been any lower.

  7. Zac Says:

The PSP went from selling 13, to selling 36. That’s a 280% increase.

This is good news for the PSP (which is really rare). I have a feeling that developers will be making more handheld games for Nintendo and Sony since the cost of development for the next-gen consoles has sky rocketed.
