Jaw-dropping. That how the newest video of Crysis looks, this time rendered on a DirectX 10 graphics card. The water and the shadows particularly stand out from anything ever before seen on a PC. Or console, for that matter.

1As much as I can’t stand EA this just simply looks too good to pass up … damn it is just beautiful. Gears of what?

2Don’t forget this … “Xbox360 cannot run DX10. The Xbox360 has unique features including memory export that can enable DX10-class functionality such as stream-out. From what we’re hearing, Crysis will support DX9 with some sort of use for DX10 features. It’s likely that those DX10 visuals can be replicated on the Xbox360, but it can’t be properly called DX10.

3Dear God! Now this I could get a new DX10 card for. And Vista. And a new CPU. Everything I need, as long as it can run Crysis!
And yeah Anuban, EA will most likely find a way to fuck this one up, or a part of it. But I doubt Crytek would allow EA to mess with their baby.

4honestly its playing on youtube. Its not possible for this jaw to drop due to a youtube video. Maybe next time they will realize that people demand hidef, such as stage6.divx.com to view amazing footage.

5“But I doubt Crytek would allow EA to mess with their baby.”
I really hope you are correct Alex. But the problem is just in how EA bullies its software devs (even if they don’t work for them) and how they do business. I am worried they may actually buy Crytek. They can’t buy Epic … they are just too big at this point. But no one else is using the Cry Engine 2 (not yet anyway) … so they aren’t making the bucks Epic is and so may not be able to stave off being purchased down the road.
Remember how EA treated Black and the renderware engine … I just have NO faith in them whatsoever. Superman was supposed to be a decent game and that came out so lousy … even after all the extra time it was given.

6Crysis… Hellgate:London… are two games that look amazing - that I want so badly - that I will not get - because they are published by EA.

7After thinking a bit deeper on the issue and also after remembering some of the EA console based games I had in the past I will say that just because it does good on the PC doesn’t necessarily mean it will be ported to the 360 (or any other console for that matter).
I will do some more in depth research of course but I am thinking about the fact that console based games like Black, Burnout, NBA Street, Def Jam Vendetta and OddWorld Stranger’s Wrath are just a few that never made the leap to the PC …
So now I will dig and see if they ever made a Best Selling PC title (non RTS of course) that made the transition to any console. I’ll be back later.

8Ugghhh … bad news for those hoping this would be a PC exclusive. After doing some pretty thorough research I am 99% certain this game will eventually make its way to a console … whether it is the 360 or the PS3. Make no mistake though this is NOT going to be a PC exclusive.
All the evidence from the past three years shows that every single non Source engine based PC shooter did make it onto a console. In fact the vast majority of their PC games (not couting the RTS games) eventually turned up on consoles or are still in development.
Now with HL2 getting ready for some 360 play it would seem that not even Source engine based games are safe anymore. Pity for those who crave that great exclusive PC game but at least the millions of consoles owners who don’t also own a super rig will one day be able to play this game.

“Crytek Explains Crysis Delay to Fans
“Some of this stuff just takes time to get right.”
by Patrick Klepek, 12/06/2006
5 of 5 users recommend this story.
Far Cry was an impressive first effort for Crytek, but Crysis looks to be where German developer really shines. Achieving the right balance means spending more time in development, though; Crysis was originally expected at the end of 2006, speculatively delayed due to Windows Vista’s move into 2007, then moved past March 2007 and now neither Electronic Arts nor Crytek will commit to a new release date.
Crytek felt fans deserved honesty, so company CEO Cevat Yerli wrote an explanation for fansite inCrysis. “The game will ship a little later than planned. I want to assure everyone that Crytek are working as hard as we possibly can to deliver this game to our fans and consumers in the earliest timeframe that meets our high quality threshold. Taking the extra time in the studio is the right decision because it helps us be sure that we can bring you the experience you expect from this new game,” he said.
The incredible visuals have also worried many their machines will burst into flames before they’re able to run Crysis — but Yerli says they’re working on it. “We are focussing [sic] our efforts right now on getting the best possible experience for the widest variety of PC configs, starting from entry-level PC’s up to the hard-core game rigs,” he said. Well, that’s encouraging — hopefully it runs better than Neverwinter Nights 2.
Reasoning in hand, everyone involved is stepping away from issuing a release date until they’re confident they can hit it. “We are tracking well and trying our very best to release the game as soon as we can,” concluded Yerli. “

10Regarding your post about exclusivity, I think Crysis will be exclusive to PC in the way that Halo was exclusive to XBox
We mostly need great games that come out first on the PC, and take a while before they’re on consoles.
I hope Crysis ends up being a quality, well balanced game, and it looks like it very well could be. We’ll have to see how it turns out.

11But Halo did eventually reach the PC within two years so that’s not really exclusive. I firmly believe that Crysis will definitely be on the 360 especially after reading their comments about making it work on mid range gaming PCs but as always I respect your right to disagree with me and form your own intelligent opinion.

12Yeah it was exclusive for a while, but not indefinitely ;). You could be 100% right about it porting to the 360, although it almost definitely wont be coming out at the same time. Who knows how long it would take before it gets ported.

13Oh no no … I am definitely NOT saying it will be out at the same time … just look at F.E.A.R. for example and also Crytek’s first game FarCry. I am just saying that eventually it WILL reach console owners of that I am 100% positive.

14Did the actual Far Cry ever come out on consoles? Or were they just other games made by Ubisoft and not Crytek? I’ve never really researched it.. I know at least one of those Far Cry games on the console were not made by Crytek.

Can’t find any references to console ports on this. Far Cry: Instincts/Evolution is an entirely different game to the original PC version, developed by Ubisoft.
There are a lot of people who what Crysis on the 360, mainly because their 360 would be better than their PC, and they cant afford, or don’t want to upgrade. EA likes to port things to every existing platform, but at the same time, Crytek doesn’t! It’ll be interesting.. and I’m thinking that there could very well be a console port. Not 100% sure though.

16Here is that info … It is like what Gearbox did with Halo on the PC … permission from the developers of the original IP.
“It’s been a big week for the Far Cry franchise. Its publisher, Ubisoft, shipped the two latest installments in the series: the Far Cry Instincts Evolution expansion for the Xbox and Far Cry Instincts Predator for the Xbox 360, which combines both Evolution and the original Far Cry Instincts into a single next-generation game.
There was also some predation of the business kind on the Far Cry front. Ubisoft announced it has secured all rights to the first-person shooter series, which was created by German developer CryTek. Though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, it covers both the intellectual property itself and “a perpetual license to use the CryENGINE Far Cry Edition.” The graphics-intensive CryENGINE is the basis of all Far Cry games, the console versions of which were developed at Ubisoft Montreal.
Today’s deal was seen as a preemptive measure to secure the popular license in the wake of CryTek’s long-term development deal with megapublisher and Ubisoft-archrival Electronic Arts. The first game to be published under that agreement, the military sci-fi shooter Crysis, recently made waves at the Game Developers’ Conference via an impressive PC demo. No release date has been announced for that game.”

17“which combines both Evolution and the original Far Cry Instincts into a single next-generation game.”
“original Far Cry Instincts” lol you have to read that one carefully.
Yeah that was a graphically enhanced version Instincts, which is a different game developed and published by Ubisoft which only came out on the XBox.
Now that I’ve read about it, I should buy this game for the 360 and see what it’s like.
Also I posted this before, but it had to get moderated because I used a link:

18Oh I know about it being different in many aspects than the one on the PC … but not really in the places where it counts … the environment graphics for example … and the character models imho look better on the 360. I had the game and beat the full Predator version but not the second story. I had one more chapter but I had seen enough and I am not one for finishing a game just to get achievements to for bragging rights. But I did finish the first game (the 360 version ships with basically both Xbox games) and I enjoyed it very much … even more than the original FarCry on the PC, overall.
You should pick up the version for the 360 … these days you can get a used copy for $25-$30.

19Ok awesome, I’ll do that. And yeah, Ubisoft used the CryEngine, and enhanced a few things, which is no surprise.
I’m amazed that this game is more expensive than GoW..
And yeah, I’m not big on achievements either, or bragging for that matter. And anyway, where I live, virtually no-one has a 360, so there’s no point in bragging ;).

20Well God of War is on the PS2 and is older … so there you have it. I did see a copy of Far Cry Instincts Predator for about $20 someplace … just can’t remember where. And it got pretty decent reviews.
