Napster Founder Creating WoW Community

December 2nd, 2006 Posted in Business

napster_kitty_200.gifThe mastermind behind Napster, Shawn Fanning, has decided to create a World of Warcraft community, similar to the idea of MySpace. The service is called Rupture. It pulls data directly from the game and places it on your own personalized page. The service allows members to instant message each other, and possibly make friends in real life, which is pretty hard for WoW addicts these days. As usual, the website will rely on advertisements for revenue.

The idea sparked from Fanning not able to communicate well with WoW. But, there are always programs like Xfire, the instant messenger for gamers, and even voice chat applications such as Ventrilo. It will be interesting to see how this works out.
