Suspected PS3 Robber Killed
On Friday night in New Hanover, North Carolina, a sheriff deputy shot and killed Peyton Strickland, an 18 year old who was in the suspect in an armed PS3 robbery.
Few details are known at this time, however, we do know that police officers knocked on Peyton’s home door with a warrant to search his house in connection with the PS3 case. Strickland answered the door and a loud fight occurred, ending with both Strickland and his German Sheppard Blaze being killed. Strickland’s roommate claims that Strickland was completely unarmed during the fight.
The New Hanover police have already launched an investigation into Strickland’s death. New Hanover County District Attorney, Ben David, released this statement:
“No one’s above the law. If there’s any criminal conduct that can be established, I’m not going to hesitate to treat them as any other defendant.”

Wow another of our children dead due to this damn PS3 craze. There is just no excuse for killing a kid … none and especially if he was unarmed. Even if he was the culprit he was defnitely entiled to his day in court … The song Mad World should be the theme song for the PS3 not Gears. This is crazy … but it goes to show that you have to keep your Karma positive or bad things will happen.
This is really sad.

Reminds of that Arab guy who was tasered in California… And that 90 year old lady who was shot like 8 times a month ago…
December 4th, 2006 at 12:49 pm
And the groom to be who was shot 31 times in NYC early last week. The world is an insane place and it seems that most gamers (who have a life) get this … which is why I just don’t understand all the hatred I encounter on the net … whatever the reasons. Soon enough Humans will be wiped off the face of this planet and replaced by a much more sane and logical high order species.
But really it can’t come soon enough. I know I have just about had it with all the bs I see, read about, encounter, and have to swallow … soon I have to figure a way to get the hell off this rock. Mad World. F’ing purely demented world filled to the brim with rejects that should have never been born.
December 4th, 2006 at 12:49 pm
oh how sad it is. the human race won’t progress untill we past this phase of violence, difference, greed and discrimination. I hope in the future things will change, lest we kill ourselves. …man’s enemy is himself… his best friends a dog.. bwahaha go figures.
December 4th, 2006 at 12:54 pm
It won’t end until there is no more mankind … as harsh and cold as that sounds … the nature of homoX has always been one of brutal savagery and killing/murder. From Homoerectus to Hablis to Sapien … we have and always will be a species who takes pleasure in the suffering of others (though of course there are some notable exceptions).
So as long as man exists these things will occur. But the days of mankind are numbered (whether it be 100 years or 1000)… that is unquestionable.
December 4th, 2006 at 1:06 pm
I disagree, the fact that we’re aware of the problem means that we can do something about it, and one day some leaders wil have the guts to make changes.
Perhaps the days of America are numbered, but not for the rest of the world. We don’t go around shooting everything, and I’ve never seen police act like that anywhere in Europe.
December 4th, 2006 at 1:19 pm
You can disagree all you like but it shows you refuse to face some fundamental facts … study your history. We’ve been aware of the problems of mankind and it violent and dispecable tendencies for thousands of years. Our so called leaders are the biggest problems themselves. And the rest of the world … oh please don’t get me started. Are you serious? Man look around. Racism, Sexism, Hatred for the sake of Hatred, etc, etc, etc.
Come on … are you blinding yourself on purpose just so you can make it through your own life and justify your own actions? Forget about the police … we are talking about the very essence of mankind. Slavery, Rape, Senseless muderers in the name of a king or some god, Genocide, and the list goes on and on. I have lived and traveled all around, inlcuding in Bern, CH … and in Europe the racism and hostility towards brown and black people is every bit as bad as it is in America. And then there is the Middle East. And don’t get me going on China and Japan … and how they feel about black and brown people. If you can’t see the days of man are numbered maybe you are just fortunate … as such knowledge would likely drive you insane. Heck on this site alone there are some serious issues of hating on people and prejudice … the world is a very very NASTY place and it is only going to get worse. I know the younger generation sure as heck isn’t doing ANYTHING worthwhile to make the world a better place. In many instances I see them as being even more insensitive and intolerant of others than their parents were.
December 4th, 2006 at 2:09 pm
I very much disagree Anuban. I never think there will be an end to the history of mankind. Perhabs this planet will be uninhabitable one day, but mankind will have moved on. There are already big plans to settle on the moon and Mars. Maybe that is even going to happen in my days. Some satellites are to be sent into orbit, which only purpose is to find earth like planets, for later settlement. So IF everything should go wrong on this planet, man can continue to live on other places. I know it sounds spacey, but there are several projects such projects in progress already with that only purpose: Settlement. But hey, this is a game site. How the f… did we get here?
December 4th, 2006 at 2:35 pm
As I said I’m not going to argue when none of you have nearly the knowlegde of the world I have … DIVISENESS is what holds mankind back and all the past actions are only indictative of things to come. Read people … and study … and travel. And understand that racism, sexism, child abuse on all levels, political mishaps, religious bigotry, intolerance for the alternative lifestyles of others and all the myriad evils of mankind are thriving as much now as they have ever thrived. Slavery is not over … where have you been … again you all have much to study and learn. Ask the women of the third world about slavery and what it is like to be denied an education and to be stoned to death because you want a divorce or were raped by someone. Ask the countries of Africa about the blind eye the western world (and yes by that I do mean the whites and Asians who have power and plenty of money) has had for decades that have resulted in the death of millions of people of color (black). Please people speak of what you think you know. Gaming … stick to that because here your ignorance of the reality of the world is glaring … and that makes it very dangerous. One book you should all read is “1984″ … and then revisit past history from 5000 A.D. to the 20th century. Then come back and tell me just how much we have progressed. Of course if you would rather delude yourselves into thinking mankind will rise to those lofty goals you have seen on Star Trek and other like shows who am I to point out the truth of the matter?
Anyway … I agree we should get back to gaming. This site is not suited for deep philosophical discussions on the nature of mankind. Here are some other authors you may find worth while though if you do want to learn more about the true nature of man:
Richard Wright
Ralph Ellison
Colin Wilson
Camus
Joyce
V. Wolfe
Hume
Hesse
Sartre
Dostoevsky
Nabokov
Tolstoy
Sinclair Lewis
Heidegger
Kierkagaard
Rimbaud
Artuad
if you want some more let me know.
December 4th, 2006 at 2:40 pm
And that thing about the actions of a few … you are kidding right. You do realize how many millions of people supported slavery throughout the ages, how many millions supported Genocide, supported killing in the name of a god, supported treating women like utter trash, supported murder for the sake of entertainment. Do I really need to continue … all that stuff you said about the positive aspects of man, well that’s the few as evidenced by the fact that RACISM and Hate are still alive and well ALL OVER the world. And as a black person with many many friends and associates all over the globe who are people of color I can speak with a clarity that frankly is quite impossible for others to comprehend and fully appreciate. Okay ’nuff said.
December 4th, 2006 at 2:51 pm
Anuban: A few, a few million supported out of what, a few BILLION people? Like he said, we EVOLVE, what was ok then is not ok now, so try and judge mankind today, as opposed to hundreds of years ago. Sure there are racists today, but you’re generalizing everyone because of them.
And btw, add Noam Chomsky to that list. And Charles Darwin, of course
December 4th, 2006 at 3:14 pm
Okay … so countless millions is a few? That’s the biggest I have ever heard … hmmm it goes to show you just don’t get it … so let me further explain:
Let’s start with Slavery … do you know why it really ended in America and in India … do you really know? It had nothing to do with White people suddenly realizing what they were doing was morally reprehensible … not at all.
In America for example it had to do with economics plain and simple. I bet you didn’t even know that Lincoln planned to reinstitute it soon after the civil war was over and the USA was presevered in its entirety. In India it took Ghandi to get the job done … these things did not happen 1000 years ago … so you can’t apply Darwin and evolution to such small scales of time. Nah that just doesn’t work … I have studied all of darwin’s major work since I am known by many as an Evolutionary poet/prose writer.
Now let is examine the 20th century which just happened so I know you realize man has not undergone any radical transformations in the last 100 years. Surely you can see that … if not I don’t know what planet you are living on.
Women couldn’t vote, My black Americans were treated like vermin, they were hung/killed at will, women raped as if there was no tomorrow …talk to the people who had dogs sicked on them and were spat on just for wanting to go to a good college to recieve a proper education. Fast forward to the Hitler era and the Edi amin regime … ask the jews if they have healed … of course they haven’t … blacks haven’t healed either … these things just happened … what major changes has mankind undergone since then … when you see wars all over the world and people still being treated horribly. Ask all the millions of hungry people why the wealthiest do next to nothing for them. Again ask the Indians who were born and raised in Africa and then forced to leave in the Edi Amin days if they have forgiven blacks in general …not from what I have seen being here in America and in my travels over seas.
The bottom line is that all this occured less than 100 years ago … and in that time more wars and more mass killings and more rapes and more horrors such as ignoring the poor and hungry and sick have continued to go on and on. You are being very unrealistic in your assessment that we have come so far. We have basically gone no where. Or don’t you keep up with world events. The nature of man has NOT evolved at all in two generations … again look around carefully … at the entire world.
Judge mankind today … okay … millions are still dying in Africa countries … what is being done? What about the whole Mideast debacle? Why do terroists hate westerners so much and is that likely to change any time soon? Women are still not treated equally in the workplace … in countried where they are allowed to work that is. In other countries women are stoned to death just because they are unhappy in their marriages. Ask the children who are used as sex toys and autioneed off like so much raw meat if they think mankind is evolving.
Ask all the drug addicts if they feel things are better. Ask their victims how they feel. And I haven’t even mentioned the AIDS crisis.
I’m sorry but your lack of understanding of the way the world is means I just can’t go on with this conversation. But please believe whatever you need to help you sleep better at night.
December 4th, 2006 at 3:54 pm
“Sure there are racists today, but you’re generalizing everyone because of them.”
And by the way … I don’t think I have just been talking about racism … not by a long shot. I also mentioned Sexism, religious bigotry, child abuse (pedophiles and the like), intolerance of homosexuals and alternative lifestyles, killing of women in certain countries just because they have been the VICTIM of rape, the wealthiest constantly ignoring the plight of the poor and hungry … so yeah I was pretty much trying to hit everything.
December 4th, 2006 at 4:43 pm
WTF…
December 4th, 2006 at 4:50 pm
Don’t worry Anuban b/c afterall:
28 days… six hours… 42 minutes… 12 seconds. That… is when the world… will end.
December 4th, 2006 at 4:53 pm
Why will it end?
December 4th, 2006 at 6:28 pm
Are you all nuts?
How do you know the kid didnt have his Dog attack the police officers?
How do you know he wasnt armed?
Because his “friend” said so?
come on,
“Because of safety concerns, UNCW Police Chief David Donaldson requested the help of sheriff’s deputies to serve the warrants on Strickland, according to a university news release.”
riiight so we easily blame the officers when something goes down that involves a suspect being shot…
yet if the cop was shot “why wasnt this maniac put behind bars sooner”
let the investigation pla out before we decide that the world is ending
December 4th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
before you respond that shooting the dog was unnessacary think about this:
When I worked at a animal rescue near Coney Island, Brooklyn we found many mangled puppies…know why?
Drug Dealers and “thug life” cut the vocal cords of pups so when the cops kick down the doors the dogs attack silently.
December 4th, 2006 at 6:45 pm
wow the police in america really aren’t that good, ive seen many videos of police shooting to kill, even if the person has a knife or is unarmed. guess thats what happens when guns are legal.
December 4th, 2006 at 8:13 pm
Zac: Dont know if you were joking or not about why the world will end. It’s from the film Donnie Darko. Watch it if you haven’t seen it yet. You wont regret.
Anuban: “I’m not going to argue when none of you have nearly the knowlegde of the world I have”. First of all, you dont know of you’re the one with the biggest knowledge of the situation of the world. Second, by stating this, everything we/I say, cannot be taken into consideration, because you have already claimed, that no matter what, you are more right than I am. Anyway. We first discussed, if mankind would ever extinct. I dont think so. But actually I’m quite rare in this sharing this opinion. Because almost everybody I have ever discussed this with, actually believes that mankind will die someday. And I’m not talking 4 billion years, more like between 1 year and a millinium. I just cant see that happenning unless some giant meteor should smash down in the surface of the earth, or some monkey were to start a nuclear war. But it’s been 61 years ago that nuclear weapons have been used in war and on civilians, and to be honest, I dont think anyone has the balls to fire up one of those babies against any other nation.
Poor people dying in the streets. Rapes and murders. That depends where you live my friend. I can name 2 reasons why there may be more crime and violence in USA than Europe, and some other parts of the world. I’m not making Europe to somekind of paradise, dont misunderstand me. BUT, if USA banned all shooting weapons completely, so that only the police force and military forces carried weapons, a lot of murders and killings could be avoided. Second: What many americans calls communism, but what we in Europe just calls socialism, might be the way. Having a social security network, that takes care of poor people, guarantees everybody a proper place they can call home, money(at least 1000$ a month for food and other things), a high hourly minimum payment, free and good education, free medical treatment, and also have job centres, which helpes people get work, really would take a lot of pressure from the poor people. YES, taxes would be higher, but on the other hand you save money on security, school etc. Actually, the richest countries in Europe are socialist states, but still operates on a liberal market. That has proven for to be the best way of doing things. Actually, Hillary Clinton had once made a suggestion to an European model, but it never made it through because a lot of american politicians were afraid of the changes. Generally I think there is way to much liberalicm in USA, and that in particular is the reason to many of the problems you have. Dont know your political standpoint Anuban, but I hope you can agree with what I say. Anyway, 150 years ago, there wasn’t any socialistic state to take care of people, but now there is. And we still have the same freedoms as you. Actually we have more, as homo sexuals ar
Speaking of the middle east. Things are going forward in some middle east countries. But it takes time. Rome wasn’t build in one day. And without offending anybody. What has taken hundreds of years to evolve in the western world, we demand that they learn overnight. Democracy for example.
But there are actually some countries were women are getting more rights. And yes, there are slavery in the world. But not the western part of it. Not anymore. That is progress, like or not Anuban. And maybe some day, there wont be slavery in the middleeast either, who knows.
By the way, merry christmas Anuban
December 4th, 2006 at 8:49 pm
I’ve done some thinking and I apologize to all of you for just not simply accepting your opinions … I now realize why many of you think I am arrogant. So from now on no more debates or “battles” from me. You have an opinion … fine. I accept that. It doesn’t matter to me anymore. So no more worries about “Oh wait until Anuban sees that” or anything along those lines. Feel free to think as you want without being constantly challenged by me.

Merry Christmas to you as well Kaiser Soze. Keep up the free thinking.

I think I lost my point in all of it. It’s kinda difficult debating in different language, and making your points. What I wanted to say is, that the world is not as black and white as you claims. There are lots of good improvements going on in the world, as well as their is still a lot of shit going on. But I enjoyed reading what was on your mind Anuban. Keep it coming

Yes especially at this time of year let us dwell only on the positive aspects of mankind and our great accomplishments as a entire civilization. There are plenty of other times we have to deal with the grim reality of being human. Peace.
December 4th, 2006 at 11:45 pm
You know Anuban, you can refrence all those people but you must take note, those are still just people with opinions. Just as you have your own. And just because you have more research doesn’t mean what your conclusion is right. IMO everyones outlook is valid as the man next to him. As I previously stated, those people you mentioned, at their time were just expressing their thoughts and were only taken note years after their death. And if you say they are a valid source of info, how can you tell? As far as i’m concerned its just the system that depicts what’s education, truth and outright blasmephy. Man, I got enough debates in my philosophy class.
Can’t we keep it to the games?
December 5th, 2006 at 4:12 am
NO!!!
December 5th, 2006 at 4:39 am
“Man, I got enough debates in my philosophy class.
Can’t we keep it to the games?”
I’m all for that Flame from here on out.
December 5th, 2006 at 6:35 am
Was this dude armed or not? No one should live and experience life’s wonderful experiences all to have it taken away by a electronic box. There was a better way to handle the situation. As usually the police took it 2 far. I mean I could see if he shooting at the police but if he’s just running away. There is absolutly no need for him to be killed.
December 5th, 2006 at 8:20 am
We really need more info before we can judge the situation.
December 5th, 2006 at 9:03 am
Why are we judging anything … it happened … it wasn’t any of us (thank God) and we are a gaming site so how about letting it pass and focusing ourselves back on gaming. Just a suggestion since there is NOTHING we can do about that situation.
December 5th, 2006 at 9:26 am
Hey does anybody remember that he is suspected of commiting a crime in the first place?
I mean I dont know what happened that led up to his killing but he may not be the innocent victim everyone seems to be treating him like.
The police report says he “may have” pulled the guy who bought the ps3s from his car and beat him, hence the “Assualt with a deadly weapon” charge they got a warrant for.
Just a little thought
December 5th, 2006 at 9:33 am
Yeah but do you kill a guy for that … or do you allow him his right to due process of the law and make certain he is indeed the guilty party? Would you want to be accused of something and then be shot dead before you had your day in court? Sorry but I just had to ask those questions … since no one seems to be willing to let this die and just move on.
December 5th, 2006 at 9:34 am
You said the operative word here “suspected” … just think about that. And then let’s all move on please. Or not if you folks don’t want to.
December 5th, 2006 at 9:44 am
well since its just m and you now..
lol
2 things about this case led it to this conclusion
1. the local cops were nervous about erupting violence from this location due to the number of complaints and times the police were called to thier location so they sent in the Sheriffs dept (prolly with that warning)
2. Due to the graphic description of the crime it I am sure the sheriffs had that on thier mind too.
now the final piece I picked up
Apparantly he was holding a six axis and the cops may have mistaken that for a gun, also they reported that he did have several unloaded weapons on the premises. But i will look deeper into that on my own.
There no more from me

December 5th, 2006 at 10:21 am
“Just a suggestion since there is NOTHING we can do about that situation.”
No no no! That’s not true.
If we argue about it some more, time will be reversed and we’ll be able to prevent the whole thing from happening.
Aah the beauty of argument.
December 6th, 2006 at 1:18 am
Well never know the truth. This is always the case with incedents like this. It gets a quick little media coverage and when they say that the whole incedent is being under investigation, you never hear anything about it again. Can you say Cover-Up.
December 15th, 2006 at 7:36 pm
Well, it was a misunderstanding, he apologized, so let’s move on, shall we? (that’s 4 commas in a sentence, makes it sound more Dr.Evil-ish)
