Nintendo Updates Wiimote Straps
December 15th, 2006 by Matt Stone in Business, Gear
Nintendo has updated all new Wiimotes with stronger straps, for all those complaining about flying controllers destroying everything. As you can see from the image above, the new strap is almost twice as thick (0,6 millimeter compared to 1 millimeter). Those concerned that the the old, thin straps won’t be enough to keep the Wiimote in their hands, can get theirs replaced here, for free. Nintendo has stressed out that this is not a recall, it’s simply an update, since the original straps have passed all sorts of safety tests.

Yay!!! Wii60 for Life as I always say. Now I can be fairly confident that when I get mine I will have loads of fun without cracking my Hitachi set. If that happened I would probably through my Wii out a window in an impulse reaction. Of course I would curse myself out later.

I tried the Wii at EBgames. The biggest surprise is the graphics. They are actually better than I had expected, even though it was only Wiisport.

This might not help. The problem wasn’t the wristband strings themselves, it was the sewn in joint that connected the string to the wristband that was weak. I think that it just needs to be sewn better.

Thanks for your ‘optimistic’ outlook Q.
