Today, the Producers Guild of America announced that the 2007 recipient of the Vanguard Award, an award which recognizes outstanding achievement in new media and technology, will go to Will Wright, the creator of The Sims as well as his newest project, Spore. This selection of Wright for the award marks the first time it has ever been awarded to a video game developer.

PGA Awards co-chairs, Mark Gordon and Hawk Koch said this about the selection,

“Will Wright is the icon of the gaming industry and one of the great producers of entertainment content. His creations have transcended into feature films and continue to entertain a global audience. We are proud to have him be the first Vanguard recipient from the gaming universe.
