As a small Christmas present, Crytek released three new screens of the upcoming sci-fi shooter Crysis. This time though, they showcase the frozen world of Crysis, and for the first time, we see the aliens! Two more screens after the jump.

1Are those concept drawings, renderings, or actual in game footage? Again all I can say is how much I wish EA was not involed in anyway whatseover. But they are so I will HAVE to pass in order to maintain my self-respect.

2they look like art drawings, doeant’ look as smooth as most cgi, and it doesn’t look like gameplay (the background doesn’t have the look that its far away)

3They’re in-game renders, like all the previous screenshots

4the middle one doesn’t look in-game to me, but if it is…well.

5I tend to agree with monir on this but whatever … as long as we know it is NOT in game action. why is that so hard for gaming companies to do? Especially since they have been bragging about how well optimized it is … show us some meaningful pictures then, please.

6Well, who cares anyway, we’re all seen the gameplay footage. I can’t wait to play this game, hell I’ll even spend a few hundred bucks upgrading my PC just for Crysis.

7Yeah I guess since I know for a fact that I am NOT getting it the point is moot.

8Actually all 3 of those are graphics, except maybe that 3rd one.. it’s just that freaken huge alien structure that makes it look odd. The first 2 are definitely in-game though, it’s just that they are using very high levels of Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic-Filtering. If you look closely you can see some of the polygons in the vegetation and landscape. I’d also guess that everything was still when they took the screenshot, most of their screenshots would not be live-action.
Here’s a screenshot that has the same level of detail, except they are not using any AA, and not much AF.

For those of you who dont know what AA and AF are, Anti-Aliasing blends and smooths out pixels so you cant see that they’re there. Think ClearType for example, which smooths out fonts.

Anisotropic Filtering smooths out the transitions between textures of different resolution, so textures further away appear to have more detail, and you don’t notice the textures gaining more detail as you move closer to the object.

You can enable these technologies on your graphics card at a cost of performance.
Here is a good example, the first shows COD on maximum detail without AA or AF, the second shows the same level of detail, except with 8xAA and 8xAF. They would have used 16x or higher in those crysis screens.
