In this rather short documentary, we take a look on crazy world of video games in the 1970s, and the people playing them. We hear them mention the “realistic” graphics and gameplay they had at the time, among other things. Interesting 10 minutes from the 70s, covering games, gadgets and technology.

“Now, Lee, I noticed you have taken your top off.”
“Well, yes, that’s the best way to enjoy the game.”
I love this.

The 70’s was when I first starting video gaming. I remember with great fondness that at the time there was the Fairchild F game console that my Dad bought for me for Christmas in 1976 and I had great fun with it! I remember playing the red baron and blackjack … my parents loved Blackjack … it was really a great cartridge based gaming system (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairchild_Channel_F) … then for me came the Atari 2600 and then the 5200 … ahhh those were the good old days.

Wow it was interesting to see him talk about games causing emotional reactions such as crying or tearing up. He really got that right because there are a few games that do cause some people to actually cry or at least get teary eyed … so yeah he really did see the future. And it is only becoming increasingly realistic. Can anyone imagine where we will be 30 years from now? Man I know I can barely see that future.
How far off are we from Holographic truly immersive and interactive games is what I wonder about all the time … wow I sure hope I live well into my 70’s so I can see that. You young folks are lucky … you’ll only be in your 40’s and 50s and we will all still be gaming like crazy … some of us will actually be creating these new wave of games. Talk about exciting things to look forward to admist all the craziness the world is throwing at us.

That is, Anuban, if there is a world still remaining to play on.

Well I prefer to remain optimistic about the future of mankind … we’ve made it this far so I think we can get at least another couple of hundred years out of being Homosapiens. Where there is life there is hope.

Lee is stroking hard his joystick in the middle of his legs and she say ‘looks like you’re really enjoying yourself’.
Priceless XD

They say that a pessimist is an informed optimist.

ROFLOL … okay Zac.

Just out of curiousity how many people have even heard of the Fairchild system I had? Did anyone else ever own one and if so what games do you remember playing on them? Seriously this one and the Bally one were the two best at the time … Bally was actually a bit better and the more expensive of the two.

I must admit, one of my dream buys would be an Amiga fully workng and with all the pheripherals.
One of my buying dreams I already fulfilled, an Atari 2600(not the one wih wood details though).
I wish I was 20 years older(I’m 18, I was born without the good old PCs and games)…
Someday I’d like to have made a Pong machine the way it was made when it was created.

You wish you were 20 years older? ROFL … it is always funny for me to hear young people who have their entire future ahead of them and plenty of time to make some mistakes wish they were older. Man is that saying about youth being wasted on the young true. What I wouldn’t give (and most people my age or older) to be 20 years younger and have a chance to redo some things. Be glad you are so young and have plenty of time to see things shape up in the world. Take advantage of your youth and make the most of it by being as productive as possible … the world is yours and your peers and contemporaries to mold as you wish.

… Yes, if we remove our shirts and get ourselves a box of sand we can create games indistinguishable from reality.

The first console to come out was in 1972, the Magnavox Odyssey and it came with 12 games. If you want to read up on console releases and a brief history about what came out and when with some old TV ads of a few I found it at this link: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,128295-page,2-c,gameconsoles/article.html.
It’s pretty cool stuff to read about.

LOL. I mean, being born 20 years before.
I’m a sucker for old computers ^^

Evander you are definitely correct … I didn’t even need to read the link to know that Magnavox was the first … but the much more advanced and more entertaining Fairchild F was the second and that is the one I got for Christmas. Man was that console ever fun at the time. Just thinking about brings back some great childhood memories.

You do realise that is a spin-off of a real 1970’s science show. That was shown last year, the new series is basicly a pisstake at science and what they thought the future would be like back then.
You can even play Diarrhea Dan on the BBC website http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/lookaroundyou/
