Game accessory maker Datel has announced a Wii LAN adapter, making it possible to connect the Wii to the Internet using a LAN cable, instead of a wireless connection. Unlike the PS3 and Xbox 360, the Wii doesn’t have a LAN port, only and only support WiFi connectivity out of the box. Nintendo offers a similar USB to LAN cable, while the Datel version is a bit cheaper.
A cabled connection is preferred instead of a wireless, since WiFi networks usually have a noticeably higher latency. Cabled LAN is also faster.

1I dunno why Ninte do didn’t include a LAN port, i doesn’t make sense. How many people ahve wireless internet? I guess it isn’t that important at the moment, there are no games online for the Wii as of now.

5Has anyone tried a USB ethernet adapter? Is that what the part actually is? Why spend money on the “official” part?

6Because you have to have the official one to work. In order for lan adapters to work, they need a driver.. the drive is inside of the wii so you have to have one that matches or is compatible with the driver.

10I just called Nintendo, again, now they say they have no confirmed release date. They continue to say “early January”. You can order it at nintendo .com
It’s on backorder right now, but they will take your order.

11AL, i get my internet via Sprint aircard which plugs into my pc by the usb port.. i want to get my wii online so tryed setting up a local area connection so can run the ethernet cable out of my pc to the wii. so bought a lan adapter, the one made by Datel. i got it at gamestop. But the wii does not seem to be recanizeing it.. So i have orderd nintendos Lan Adapter directly. I’m still waiting for it in the mail..I hope this works.
Why didn’t they just put a enthernet jack on the back of the wii?…is wifi really that comon now? Note i plug my enternet cable into my PS3 useing my current set up and works just fine…
