Ah. Yeah I havn't seen much of FEAR, what I saw was inside buildings and a bit of outdoor in an industrial area. HL 2 has some nice little details to it, and things look generally pretty good until you zoom in. I personally like the character models in HL2 more, they seem somehow more realistic, but yeah, I also havn't seen much of FEAR, so my judgements are vague.

Well we can just agree to disagree on that point. I don't know what setting you saw F.E.A.R. on though ... me I run it at 1600x1200, 4xAA or no AA with soft shadows turned on (looks the most realistic but is a resource hog), 8-16xAF (depending on if I want a bit better frames or not) and everything else on maximum. When I max out HL2 it just doesn't look nearly as good imho. Especially the lighting in dark areas, the character models and the textures. I do think that the animations (especially the facial ones) are a bit better in HL2 and of course the outdoor environments look better I will concede that.

"anuban ur such the shit dude i finally built some levels on ut04"

I think that is a compliment (?) so thanks ... glad you took the time to learn a bit about the Unreal Editor and made some levels in UT2K4 (hopefully they are playable so upload them somewhere and give me a link) which will come in handy when you decide to mod ... I can always use Level developers when I start work on my mod for UT2K7 which I am still in the process of putting on paper first.

The Monolith engine is more realistic in my opinion for that type of game. But I suppose the Source engine is holding up decently considering it is going on 2 years old.

I think it looks fine. The Source Engine is pretty realistic. The reason it might look the same is because it's in a city like location.

Nope it's not just you Jim2K ... Valve needs to upgrade that Source engine and people need to be more artistic when developing games using that engine.
