In a recent interview, Digital Extremes revealed that their upcoming sci-fi action game, Dark Sector, has been cancelled. Prior to the statement, there were rumors about the cancellation due to the lack of a PC-CD logo on the official site and dearth of statements regarding the game. This is a real disappointment, as Dark Sector showed plenty of promise. Check out the trailer after the jump.

1Glad to hear (and I’ve actually known this for a few a week or so now) that the Xbox360 version is still on the way … and yes so is the PS3 version though I doubt there will be any big difference since I don’t think the DE engineers are smart enough to take true advantage of the Cell processor … I don’t even know if they will make this a standout game on the 360 by the end of the year or if they will tank this down the line or further extend it out until 2008. The latest reports are that it is supposed to ship in the 3rd quarter of 2007. But given DE’s track record of the last couple of years I wouldn’t bank on it.

2“But given DE’s track record of the last couple of years I wouldn’t bank on it.”
Epic had more to do with Unreal 1 than DE … that is a fact … since then they have gone downhill … everyone knows this. DE also only had a small part in UT2K4 which was lauded as the best MP game for sometime. Their last two games which they did without any involvement from Epic were pretty lousy.
There is no competition between Epic and DE … none at all … and DS is not using UE3 but it’s own engine developed in-house which can’t compare to DE. Epic artists, level designers, and engineers are second to none as demonstrated by Gears and the upcoming UT2K7 … as well as the fact so many people are using UE3.

3What? There last two games were weak … how can you even argue that? I liked DE … and I hope they get something right for a change tbh. But after seeing how little they actually contributed to UT2K4 and then playing Pariah and seeing WarPath I am sorry to say they have lost their way a bit. I was looking forward to DS when it was based in space but I am not all that impressed with this new vision. you know this is just my opinion but you can’t be serious when you say they match up against Epic in any way at all. They are already pissing off a bunch of people who are usually in their corner … PC gamers … by trashing the PC version of Dark Sector … so again they are not thinking wisely imho. I hope they can make this game a success though and I would probably end up buying it.
I will say that the BullDog in Pariah … once fully upgraded … is perhaps my favorite AR ever in a game. They definitely got that one facet of Pariah correct.
