HD-DVD Decrypted
A hacker known by the alias muslix64 has decrypted the AACS of an HD-DVD, using the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive This allows you to view the HD-DVD on software using your computer, or back-up the content files, just in case. The hacker also says that you will need a certain encryption keys for each movie. Currently, it is unknown how he even got them in the first place. The source code will be released in January.
The same encryption keys used on the HD-DVD format are similar to those used on Sony’s Blu-Ray format, so this is one step closer to decrypting that, too. Besides having full high definition on the formats, digital rights management was one of the reason for abandoning the DVD format. If both standards are fully cracked, could this mean the end of the format wars? Or could Sony’s offer to talk with Toshiba create a new format that could use an even greater encryption, and offer even better features and quality? It seems that with every new format war, there’s always the same winner: The Pirates. Video of Full Metal Jacket being decrypted after the break.

Meh, it’s more of a side note than a huge topic.

“Each generation believes it is smarter than the last, and wiser than the next.”

As always young people who haven’t experienced a lot of living miss the point … but it is not worth getting into any disagreements about whatsoever. As you age you will understand what I have said … until then there is no point having this type of conversation.

Is anyone else afraid to comment because you’re afraid Anuban’s going to rip apart your comment?
…Just kidding Anuban
Maybe just a little

No i ain’t scared, bwahaha.
It seems to me that Anuban, totally underestimates the values of the newer generation, or sterotypes.

What a dumb argument…seriously. Also what’s with bringing age into it? “I’m older than you so I know more and am always right!”
Sony forcing their Blu-Ray format on the gaming community made the console wars combine with the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray war whether you want to admit it or not. Just because the HD-DVD movies aren’t directly related to a specific video game doesn’t mean that it’s not related to the gaming community as a whole. What if the Xbox Live Video Marketplace was hacked into and all the movies were stolen… granted it wouldn’t be directed towards a specific video game, but it is still relevant and therefore newsworthy. Some people just seem to be close minded and that is my opinion without using profanity, yelling, etc. etc.

It seems to me that you underestimate the value of age and wisdom coming from experience … of all types … once you get older though you will see things very differently … sort of like how you saw things at 13 and how you see things now.
But of course this is wasted on the majority of you who want to over generalize what I am saying … and this article is about HD-DVD PERIOD and on a gaming site where I am told that only issues relating to gaming should be published as articles this has NO revelance and should quite simply never have been published. I will say again … YOU CANNOY use this format for ANY gaming … whereas with Blu-ray Sony has stted their intention to use that format as also a disc format for Super Hi-Def games. So there IS a HUGE difference.
But you know what, I disagree with the majority of people on this and that doesn’t bother me one iota. I knew once I mentioned age all you young whipersnappers would come running with some commentary about how wise you all are or how I was putting you down in some way.
As I close I will say this … age is not the thing here … it is wisdom that comes from life experience. Even though I was a Systems Manager at age 20 in a Major Civil Engineering firm and at age 21 providing C API support for a ground breaking product I can honestly say now as I look back at all the things I didn’t get it was because I was just too young to understand what the 40 year olds at that time were telling me and too quick to become defensive about my young age.
Take from that what you will but really I am done with this conversation and this thread. Good luck to all you youngsters as you grow older and wiser. When you look back on things many of you will realize that it is sometimes better to listen to folks who have already been where you are.
Of course I don’t expect you too … that would be too much to ask. Even I didn’t listen and many said I was a wunderkid. Big deal … had I listened to older people a bit more carefully I would probably already be in game development and not going back to school for it now. Ciao.

I did neglect to add that I did learn about how younger people of this generation perceive themselves in relation to older people and specifically older people from my generation while I was leading the HaloUT mod. I worked with kids from 14-20 who were absolutely brilliant when it came to technical matters but quite honestly really had a great deal to learn about being an adult in the real world. So I am not just saying what I say from a lack of experience … and I really appreciated the insight they provided me with into how younger people think and behave. It was a great learning experience for me and for the great majority of them as well from what they told me. On that note I am done so whoever wants to get the last word in or take some shots at me … have at it.

Thanks for the info on the HD-DVD hack, very interesting.
You’re forgiven Anuban, the trouble with starting a “thread” such as this is that no one wins because a) it’s the internet and b)This is a games related website and anyone who visits here automatically assumes they are right (this is the internet after all)
Oh and I only read the last 2 lines you posted so I really don’t know what you’re appologising about :-/
