Oh yeah … thanks for the congratulations Zac … I really do appreciate someone saying that … especially given how I can sometimes come across as an overly opinionated, argumentative, arrogant know it all. I need to be more careful of that in the future I know … I guess I’ll blame it on the fact I am a Scorpio and we are usually a bit crazy and extremely passionate about topics/discussions we take on.

But unlike Microsoft Sony has almost gone bankrupt. They had to spen a lot of money on many things at one time and it a stung: the recall for laptop batteries for Apple and Dell both, the high cost of Bluray developement, the loss of money for the PS3, even the financing for Casino Rayal all at the same timeframe, Sony simply cannot bounce back from this completely. Maybe partially but not completely.

No if they dropped it now and took a bit of a hit but could point to moving PS3s that would be better than them just sitting on the shelves and not getting played at all. You have to remember that the game developers are also being hurt by this. Plus they just have to do what MS already has done … bring manufacturing costs down as quickly as possible. But really they need to sell consoles in order for the software to move and to keep devs on board as partners.

Yeah, but by the time the price drops to $500 it will be doing so poorly that Sony wont be able to afford the extra $100 loss for each console. They’re darned if they do and darned if they don’t with no way around it.

Well that won’t happen given manufacturing costs but I do think that the price point of $500 would really help push some out the door. Given the included blu-ray and larger HD than the 360 I think people would be willing to pay $100 more than the Premium 360 and if you add on a NON-HDMI HD-DVD player as I have you are at $600 anyway … and with a much smaller HD. So really Sony could at least talk that angle up. But they have ZERO common sense and a ton of arrogrance so that won’t happen either.

Nah … people will get it eventually … it’s just that right now what is really the motivating factor to get something that costs $600 but doesn’t have but one really good game going for it that isn’t a port of something that has already been out or is multi-platform. And blu-ray isn’t moving people all that much … HD-DVD seems to be gaining more momentum atm. But I do think once more PS3 exclusive titles that really show off the power of the hardware (or even God of War II) comes out then you’ll start to see the PS3 fly off the shelves and being purchased by real avid gamers. Just now is not that time. And we all know I am no fan of Sony’s overpriced products.

I told you folks about the power of Karma. This news makes me so happy. Now at least the people who really wanted one can get it for the correct price … even though even at $600 it is still too rich for my blood. But who knows … I’ll probably eventually break down and buy one by the time God of War II comes out.

read this on another site about an hour ago, those scalpers are giving the console back since they didn’t even buy one to play for themselves, they just wanted to make quick money by making someone else cough up triple or more the amount.
