STALKER Release Date Revealed?
December 29th, 2006 Posted in News
According to German site PCGames.de, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl has finally received a release date, March 16, 2007. The open ended FPS taking place years after the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl has been in development for over 5 years, and recent previews suggest that the game indeed looks dates. In other words, the “revolutionary” gameplay will have to make up for the visuals. Nevertheless, STALKER is one of the most anticipated games of 2007, we’ll see if the PC shooter manages to deliver.

My prediction is that this game is going to get pretty mediocre reviews but because there just aren’t that many FPS that are any good at all for the PC and because this will run on many mid range systems without the need of worrying about DX10 and multicore CPUs it will end up being a retail hit. I know I will be getting it … especially since Crysis is off limits for me.

I think it’s gonna be a great game, besides the graphics. I mean, 5-6 years in development, these guys gotta have something to show for, right? Same with Duke Nukem.

Let’s hope you are correct Jim but I am not going to hold my breath. Prey was 10 years in development … how good do you honestly think that game was/is? I got it for the 360 the day it came out and still haven’t bother finishing it. I got bored with it after a certain point. I probably will eventually finish it though. I think I have five more chapters to go.

Prey was decent, but it wasn’t 10 years in development, it was on and off for 10 years, while they have been working on STALKER for five full years. That’s why I think STALKER can never disappoint, it may not receive GOTY and perfect scores, but I think the majority will enjoy the game to it’s full.

On and off for 10 years still counts as 10 years in my book … but okay like I said we shall see. I can’t agree with your statement that STALKER can never disappoint though. There are going to be a lot of people who will complain about the graphics if nothing else. Maybe for you though it won’t ever be a disappointment but you can’t speak for everyone else. It is not a God of War II kind of game. That is a game that can NEVER disappoint.

Well someone did point out that the gameplay is non linear and the A.I. is unscripted so there is a chance Jim is correct from the gameplay standpoint, but I still wonder how much of an effect the visuals will have on the immersiveness factor since better looking games have come out in the last two years.

i’m sick of games that only look good but the gameplay is awfull…i personaly think this will be the “spark” for “next-generation” shooters!my opinion…second best FPS this year after crysis…IF the people from crytek manage to finish the game this year!

The Crytek team is well on their way … I posted the entire interview on the Crysis requirements thread … they are pretty much ready to enter Alpha. I doubt this game will beat out Bioshock as far as second best FPS for the PC for 2007 though … I guess I’ll just reserve my judgement until they are all released and I get to actually play these games. Remember HL2:EP2 is also due out this year and of course Quake Wars … there is some real stiff competition.
