Just How Many Wiis Are Sold?
December 30th, 2006 by Darren Stevens in Articles, Business, Online, Wii
There is some doubt over just how many Wii consoles Nintendo managed to sell this year. According to VGCharts, it’s 3,5 million, while nex-gen-wars claims it’s just over 2 million. Game TV show G4TV has their number at 3,19 million in worldwide sales, but none of the sites provide any sources, because there are no official sales numbers.
Japanese Media Create latest estimate is around 800,000 in Japan to date. Nintendo previously retracted a statement about shipping one million Wiis to North America this year, so the sales numbers are most likely lower than 1 million, possible 800,000 just like in Japan. The (conservative) estimate in Europe is around 300,000, bringing the total sales just under 2 million. Unofficially, of course.

Three million’s imprssive, but i knew they wouldn’t reach they’re 4 million mark for the new years.

Shipped, not sold. And it was 4 million by the end of the business year, which isn’t new years
1 million shipped by new years.
Facts are important.

2 million sounds more accurate than 3 million, I don’t think Nintendo even shipped that many.

joe: No one’s talking about shippent numbers, but sales numbers. Nintendo retracted the prmise of shipping the consoles, ergo, sales can never exceeed that amount.

Nintendo just gonna keep making Wiis and DS consoles now, I hear theit making 2 million DS and 1 million Wiis a month, that’s huge by any standard. Wii shortages will probably fade out in a month or two.

Ah, it won’t work for poor old nintendo,
next year the ps3 will be in full demand and xbox will lower it’s prices again. No one will buy the wii after that, man. It’s just the lack of ps3’s that made people buy the wii in the first place, like when you feel like having dinner, but it’s not dinner time yet. You buy a cheap low-quality hamburger somewhere in town to get around for the next few hours, and then you treat yourself to a real meal, hahaha.

Nintendo gains a lead: doom makes more excuses.
January 3rd, 2007 at 10:28 pm
some lead that is. Ps1 : 100 million + sold PS2 100 million + sold.
Come again?
January 4th, 2007 at 3:14 am
Come again? Why are you bringing meaningless facts in? ps1 and ps2 are ex generations. Regardless of past console sales (Sega Mega Drive probably sold a lot too), Nintendo is in a clear lead. You must be blind not to notice that.

I totally agree with you Zach. During the times I have gone to gamestop and ebgames during late november and December (five times each to be exact), my boyfriend and I were talking to a fellow friend who works there and checking out new games. The first thing we noticed it the fact that 3 ps3’s (2 20gb and another 60 gb) were actually on sale, and no wii’s. Why no wii’s ladies and gentlemen? all sold out. During that time atleast 20 people came into the store asking for a wii, while not one person asked for a ps3. So Doom, next time you try to be a smart*ss, get your facts straight and figure out what the cheap, low-quality hamburger really is.

I meant to say *fellow friends*. Yeah, I have a lot of friends who love video games like me

They where sold because people where driving up prices. You can’t sell a wii since there is enough.
Well see in 1 year, if wii is still bigger I’ll grant you guys right. Untill then, you’ll look like foolhardy wiifanboys

They were sold because they were driving up prices??? You can’t sell a wii since there is enough? Dude, you’re not making any sense. I specifically stated that three ps3’s were available for over and hour with not one person asking for one. Clearly you’ve proven my point. Come on that doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. And what do you mean until then?, wii is owning ps3 right now as I am writing this response. By the way the Wii’s price didn’t increase at all. Man this is sad.
p.s. I’m a girl, b*tch, and yeah, we will see if the ps3 will gain the dominance it once had.

You’re on!
Aaaah you’re a sweet little girl aren’t ya! Aaaaah! Sorry can’t say anything nasty to you, you’re just too damn sweeeeet!
January 9th, 2007 at 7:44 am
Yeah doom, how will ps3 sell more in a year, if they’re not selling the ones in store now?
January 9th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
Gee thanks Doom, beside all your ignorance and fifth grade debates, you recognize true sweetness.
