EA Promises More Innovation
Many people have, with good reason, bashed EA for spewing out rehashed game franchises every year, with little or no innovation. However, according to Alain Tascan, the general manager of Electronic Arts, Montreal, all thats about to change. In a recent interview, Tascan was quoted as saying,
“EA has realized that what we need now to stay number one and keep that edge is really to focus on creating new IP. I mean, we just did Superman Returns and all the sports, but we feel that we are now ready to take big bets on new IP, and not bet the farm on the established titles.”
“We think this is something that people are going to react well to, because EA is not known for this. I mean, if you look at the comments of people on some of the things I’ve said and they say ‘how can you dare talk about innovation?’ And that’s what we want to prove that as a company we can do it.”
Two months ago the same Tascan criticized Gears of War for having “zero innovation”, despite EA not releasing any original titles for years. If it actually pans out, EA could bring some great innovation to gaming. I mean, with cash cows such as Madden, they have to have at least a little money to risk on innovation. But “risk” is bad business, as you may know.

I don’t and will never buy ANYTHING with EA on the label. They add in game advertising and make you pay for ridiculous parts of games you assume are built in when you buy it…

Ya you got to Download the Innovation from the Xbox Marketplace. For about 1600 xbox points. Thats like $20. Will Wright needs to leave EA.

I’d buy an EA game if they were good, not because of the company. Though all they seem to make are crap games… It takes a long time to become a good company EA.

Well they are going to make a lot of money off of the Crysis and Hellgate London deals … I still hope I have the willpower as a gamer to keep away from those titles … I hate to see EA get one cent of my money.

Haha, “innovation”. Sure, if “innovation” is finding news ways of ripping off gamers… Then Innovation indeed.

Last thing I bought was BF2, and to this day, it’s filled with bugs so much that I can barely play it decently.
