A seven year old boy died yesterday in Thailand when he was unplugging the charger of his GameBoy, the Mirror reports. The boy was on vacation with the GameBoy he received for Christmas. After unplugging the charger, he got electrocuted, according to his mother, Kathleen Curry, who found his body in the hotel room. She denied that the boy was wet after swimming while unplugging the charger, saying he understood the dangers involved.
[Update] According to Evening Standard, the charger used wasn’t a standard one provided by Nintendo, but purchased in Thailand. Furthermore, hotel staff claim that the boy was indeed wet when he unplugged the charger, as he came out of the pool, contrary to what his mother is saying. [Thanks, Ruined]

1Update to this story: Evening editions of UK papers like the Evening Standard and London Lite are running that the mother is now calling for the hotels wiring to be tested which she thinks was at fault. According to the paper the health and safety standards in Thailand are dangerously lax when it comes to electricity.
Also assume someone submitted this from memory as the story above is missing the key facts.
1. The charger which the boy was using was not the standard one but one they had bought in Thailand
2. The hotel is insisting he had just come in from the pool and that he must have touched the socket while still wet. His mother is arguing that fact as stated above
Both quite important points of the story that ran in the papers today

2Also that hotel was in a flood a while back which could be why the hotels electrics were a bit screwed.

4… Yeah wel chances are if the charger was made in thailand as well as bought there it was counterfeit. And by the way, if the kid just came out of the pool, then he just came out of the pool and there’s no use arguing otherwise.

7samething different day,not the kid dieing but the company saying its not are fault he s dead. Instead of blaming the mom or the kid whoever say, “im sorry, do u need a hand”?.the mom already has enough on her plate if they plan to arrest her that is totally bs.
i got another story i heard on the news”the reason y i dont watch the news always sad crap” A couple had a baby, and like most kids grow up with their pets.So they had a baby girl and got a baby puppy. But somehow the puppy ate the baby toes off. One im bout to be a father in 8 weeks so i would probably 1,wouldnt let the dog sleep with my kid but they arrested the parents.
The point to this is that i hope the mother doesnt get into trouble of something like this shes already going through hell as it is.

8Hold on a second…
Have any of you ever visited Thailand? I’m actually part Thai myself, and I’ve had an experience with the electricity over there…THOSE PLUG SOCKETS ARE HORRIBLE! My god…I was unplugging a fan once and I got zapped like hell! In fact, most everything I’ve unplugged over there has shocked me a bit.
Ugh…
