Ah, those Germans, they’re at it again; banning violent videogames like no other country. They effectively banned Dead Rising last summer, then a few months ago Gears of War was banned, and now another Xbox 360 game is officially banned, Microsoft’s upcoming GTA clone Crackdown. The German ratings board, USK, refused to give the game a rating, for the same reasons they refused to give a rating to Dead Rising and Gears: it’s too violent. This means that Crackdown cannot be displayed or advertised in stores, although they can technically be sold. However, many stores chose not to sell unrated games at all.

3Germans always miss out on the fun games… But they don’t mind releasing violent movies, like monir mentiones.

4Figures as usual. I can’t help but wonder though if one of the main characters being a black man also had something to do with their decision this time around. Germany sucks … plain and simple.

6dead rising had a black man too thats why it was…oh wait, nope it didn’t.
it could be because of the 18+ rating…but then the people that can have sex at 13 and buy alcohol and tobacco can not play a video game.

7Germany is a cool country Anuban, although banning violent videogames always sucks. I find it hard to believe that anything about the issue should be connected to anything racial of some kind. May I remind you that WWII and nazism and intolerance ended in Germany more than 60 years ago. Germans today are no more racists than everybody else.

8I was there in 1991 and that is not the feeling I got at all. Sorry but the Swiss and French and even Austrians treated me with tons more respect than the Germans I met in Germany. Sad but true. Intolerance in Germany ended? You must be kidding … no doubt that the German women are cool but not the German men. Not the ones I came in contact with at any rate. That’s my story from direct experience as a black American man who lived in Switzerland for a year and I am sticking to it. The way I saw the Germans (men for the most part) treat the African and Indian people was disgraceful. Hopefully you are right though and things have gotten better in the last 15 years.
But anyway I don’t want this thread to get any more off topic … It definitely sucks big time that any video game would be banned or not receive a rating so that it can be advertised. I just hope Crytek wises up and leaves there soon.

9I think you could find a lot of places in U.S.A. where you would feel very uncomfortably on the fact that your skin is brown/black what ever. A lot of things have happened in Europe the last 15 years. There have come a lot more immigrants, and I think people have gotten used to the thought of a multiracial/cultural society.
Anyway, YES, if I were in the management of Crytek, I would also leave the country for such an insult

10I’m from Germany Anuban and you’re full of it. There are millions of blacks in Germany, and they’re treated just like anyone else. We might ban violent games, but in terms of equality we’re far better than America, I can asure you that. I should know, I’m married to a black woman.
Don’t just blame the white man for everything, I thought you were better than that.

11BTW Anuban. Be careful what you say about a country. Judging people on color is just as bad as judging people on nationality

12I am just going by my direct experience KS and Alex … like I said maybe it has changed and if so that is good … but during the time I was there it was pretty awful to say the least. Everyone of the Africans and Half-casts I talked to at that time felt the same way. Sorry if you are sensitive to that but it is true. Look at the way the German media behaved when Seal and Heidi Klume got married. But if you want to think it is better because you are white and not black then go ahead that is fine with me. And Alex good for you that you are married to a black woman … obviously I wasn’t talking about every singe German male but the vast majority of them … and you are right that in America it is the same way pretty much. And I don’t blame the white man for everything but I do know my history and I do see the world for what it is the majority of the time. Like I said before said but true. But again I would like to move on past this but if you aren’t going to allow that to happen then I will continue to defend my position from the perspective of the person who is most directly affected.
Kaiser I really don’t have a clue what you mean by your last statement. I didn’t find German men hospitable it is that simple. If it has changed that is cool but that is how I recall the situation.

14Yes the french were really nice to me actually especially since I was talking about art and jazz a great deal (you have to remember that many black writers and jazz musicians during the 50’s and early 60’s became ex-patriots and lived in France and flourished there) and made an attempt to speak French. I had the most fun in Geneva and in the Swiss French speaking parts like Montreaux and Neuchetel (my spelling may be off … it has been a while sorry).

15I didn’t mean to be rude Anuban, and I’m not German myself, so I really dont have the big picture of the situation in the country. It sucks you have bad memories from there.
