According to IGN’s Matt Casamassina, Halo on the DS once existed. He apparently got the chance to play the game before it got unfortunately canned. Microsoft and an unnamed publisher had been working on the Halo DS project but had to cancel it due to a couple of issues and differences.
Matt wrote about the leaked Halo DS game he had gotten the chance to play:
Amazingly, the ill-fated DS version of the title plays remarkably well. Think Metroid Prime Hunters but with a Halo facelift. I had the opportunity to run through the beginning beach area and noted while playing that it looked like Xbox Halo except on DS, it was running fast, and the control was responsive. The trademark Halo music even played out of the tiny speakers of Nintendo’s handheld.
It is very unfortunate that this game couldn’t have been continued on, the idea of Halo for the DS, as strange as it seems, would have undoubtedly been a massive hit. Check out his blog for more information.

3Very bad business move on Microsoft’s part… The DS is like, the most successful gaming device out there, and Microsoft should throw away their differences and just make the game, it’ll only help them, has no effect on their precious 360’s. Personally, I think they oughta make a Wii Halo too, but we all know that hell will freeze over first.

4the guy said it played nearly as well as the xbox version, so it seemed it did work, it probably got a bit too big though. its like trying to put halo on the n64.

6I can’t understand why any of you would think MS would let their baby run on a platform that MS isn’t connected to? Does Nintendo let any of THEIR major IP run on anyone else’s hardware platform? Not that I know of … same with Sony so I don’t understand the finger pointing at MS. Also maybe MS has some plans of their own in the near future for a handheld gaming device and maybe a Halo game is in the works for it. But I don’t see the issue here at all.
My 1000th post and of course it is Halo related!

7but then again, there are countless of games published by RARE (which is now owned “exclusively” to microsoft) been ported to the DS. Heck, even Tomb Raider, Crash bandiicoot and spyro whom used to be mascot of playstation are now shafted onto the ds. so who knows :/

8Drew those RARE games are not key MS IP like Halo (not even close) and MS is still getting a lot out of Halo so you really can’t make the same comparison. Again when I see Nintendo letting their key IP run on other hardware platform maybe I could see a future where MS would return the favor but I don’t think that is likely at all. I don’t think either of them even want that to happen. Of course only time will tell but there is no indication something like this would happen in the next 5 years. However I will concede stranger things have happened so anything is possible I suppose in this crazy world.
