According to Japan’s Enterbrain, as of January 6, the Wii has sold 1,135,671 units in Japan. In 2006, the Wii sold almost 990,000, while the PS3 sold 467,000 units, despite launching several weeks before the Wii (Wii launched on December 2). The PS3 would most certainly have sold a lot more if there were enough units. The Xbox 360 sold around 290,000 through the end of the year, a decent figure considering it’s never been the most popular console in the land of the rising sun.

NPD figures coming in a few days… I’m excited to see how well the Wii did, and I expect the PS3 to sell pretty good as well.

Well maybe the PS3 did sell okay but it will still be far behind the Wii and the 360 and even if you only took last years 360 launch numbers at this time into account they are still clearly better than Sony’s are presently. I know for some the truth will be painful but it is what it is.

I’m just saaying what I “expect”, not what I “hope”. Sony shipped a million consoles, I expect that at least 90% of those are sold, so 900,000 consoles sold in 2006. That’s not bad, considering all the problems they’ve had. Compared to Wii and 360, it might be bad, but nothing’s final yet, 2007 will be the decisive year.
But we’ll see once the sales figures are out.

lol people are quick to jump down sonys throat as far as eating dusk ? those shipment numbers are nothin to brag about the 360 has been out a year before and really people make it seem as if nintendo shipped 20 million , the 360 shipped 30 million and the Ps3 is at like 200,000 lmfao. My point is this , there are 7 games in a Nba championship for the trophy . Sony already has two rings ,and Nintedo and Microsoft may have them down 3 games but there still 4 games left. I wont just bet right now I will when they both have more games and Dev’s spend more time with all three consoles so I’d say a year or two from now.

I just live in the present … and in the next generation past as in how MS did with it’s next gen system launch. We can all speculate about the future and that is fine but for this next-gen war (not last gen … Sony pretty much won that one no disputing those facts) the present numbers are what counts. Let us all remember that Sony had a pretty good lead on the gamecube and the Xbox so turnabout is fair play as far as I am concerned with the 360.

I agree, if MS could jump from it’s atrocious launch, so can Sony, just not as well because now PS3 has competition, 360 did not, or else it would have most likely lost to PS3.

Quartecks, MS did bounce back, BUT: there were no Xbox 360s in stores for months after the launch, I couldn’t get one until March this year. That’s not the case with the PS3 now, is it?

Q-man how can you say the 360 would have more than likely lost to PS3 when it still outsold the PS3 in this same holiday time period by a decent margin? I don’t get that and I just can’t agree with you … again the price and available games would have been a problem for Sony to overcome. Plus Sony has just lost yet another supposedly exclusive title to MS … that being UT2K7 for consoles … I really think people are still unsure if Sony can make this next gen race a viable one. And as Alex pointed out the 360 was still flying off shelves as soon as it came in for quite a while. That is just not happening with the PS3.

Bla! bla bla! BLA!

Well give us some hard facts then … we are waiting … waiting to see Sony do something to move units off the shelves and into the living room. Post those links or provide direct quotes … we would all like to see what is going on with Sony from an objective point of view. How many times do I have to say I will probably own one if they get it priced right and give me a reason to spend big bucks on yet another gaming console. So far I don’t have any reason to get one. And neither do most people when compared to the Wii and the 360 it would appear. One good game … R:FoM … does not a next-gen console make.

I think there where a few more good games, at least gamerankings said so. But then again, how can I be digressing from the god of knowledge that anuban is *cough cough*

You were doing so good … but it was only a matter of time … just tell me without getting insulting as usual what other really good games are there for the PS3 … the GT:HD game … okay that is one more. What about another that is NOT available on the 360 (I know you wanted to say FN:Round 3 and it is a good game and it does look good on the PS3 even better than the 360 version it has reported by many reputable sites but c’mon is that enough to say the PS3 wins .. you wouldn’t say that about the Xbox vs PS2 version would you?) … and that is a full game with at least online MP or splitscreen MP (so don’t say Motorstorm just yet although it will be a good title once those things are added)? I’ve taken a look at gamerankings and I don’t see your point so clarify it for me please and without the stupid “god of knowlegde” stuff because I clearly get things wrong as much as anybody does .. but I am always willing to admit when I am mistaken … just so long as someone gives me some proof. So yeah maybe there are 4 solid games but one lacks any MP and one has already been done on the 360 so of course there was time to tweak it almost a year later. So again I am just not convinced … but maybe you have some other examples. And actually if you check gamerankings you will see that FN:3 got the same 85% average rankings on both systems so again not that big of a difference.

I want the Wii to dominate Sony and Microsoft this time around more than I want one myself. Reason being how much Nintendo was being bashed before these consoles came out, and that Nintendo is old, crappy, and dead. Hopefully it will come true. Heck, I could use a Wii, myself, on the side.
