Hellgate London Will Be Subscription Based
January 10th, 2007 by Darren Stevens in News
Speaking to Shacknews, Flagship Studios’ Bill Roper revealed that Hellgate: London will be subscription based like an MMO, although it can be argued whether the game is an actual MMO or not. Hellgate: London is the spiritual successor to Diablo, where demons have taken over London in a near-future. It’s expected to launch this summer and is currently in Alpha-stage.

Well that ends the whole “should I get this even though EA has something to do with it” issue for me. I will never get a subscription based game … personally I am not into that model of gaming at all so this is one title I WILL definitely let pass me by. Hope everyone else enjoys it though but there are enough games around between the four (or five if you still count the PS2 because of God of War II) platforms (even though I have yet to break down and buy a PS3) to keep me going … of course I am not including portbale gaming but I am including the PC.

Well, single-player is still free. The subscription part is probably because EA, who are trying to squeeze every penny our of everything. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

Single player is still free? Oh cool I didn’t know that since I am already going to break down and put some money into EAs pockets when I get Crysis I think I will still completely pass on this title.

Yeah, I’m only going to consider this game if Single Player is free, I hope LAN games are free too, I enjoy playing it more with people I know, like I do with Diablo II. This definitely won’t be an MMO, or what point would there be in random generation of scenes.
My guess is that you’d have to pay for Battle.Net, but SP and LAN will be free, and I hope that’s right.
