NetDevil Announces Warmonger FPS

NetDevil, the developer behind the fairly disappointing MMO Auto Assault has announced a new project called Warmonger. It’s a first person shooter apparently loaded with great technology; powered by the Unreal Engine 3 and at the same time using Ageia’s PhysX engine. NetDevil president Scott Brown explains,
“New rigid body technology and implementation allow for scope of destruction unlike any other FPS currently available. As a player, you’ll be able to feel the freedom of completely adaptive environments and the full use of conscious, destructive power.”
The game takes place during a fictional war in Iran, where you have to battle in large cities, going from block to block against your opponent. There is also an RPG aspect to the game, where you’ll be able to rank up and gain extra abilities. NetDevil’s Scott Brown has confirmed that Warmonger “is the basis for a fully-realized MMO design that NetDevil will be looking to bring to market”, something like Auto Assault, apparently.

Warmonger… If This is anything like AutoAssault then they should call it CrapMonger. AutoAssault was kool for like 1 1/2 minuets. Lame… NCsoft, Walk away!

I’m actually pretty excited about this being a huge fan of the FPS genre. This game and Cell Factor Revolution are the two other FPS games besides the ones that have already been hyped that look to be very interesting if they do indeed ship. Especially since I will NOT even be looking at Hellgate London. Here are some interesting tidbits:
“One thing that is interesting is that NetDevil is working with a Hollywood special effects company to scan real life environments and then take the 3D images to place them in the game.”
“the release of new PhysX supported games like CellFactor: Revolution and the newly revealed NetDevil shooter Warmonger will help spur sales of the product.
Steele also told us more about Warmonger. The folks at NetDevil apparently have an aggressive timeline for releasing the first version of the game. The Unreal Engine 3 powered title is scheduled to ship sometime this spring as a four or five level title, much like CellFactor: Revolution. Steele told us that it’s still undecided if Warmonger will have a traditional retail release or if it will be packaged with a PhysX board.”
That would be cool if they manage to make the PhysX PPU affordable and can demonstrate how it really helps make games more immersive without causing fps slowdown. I would probably get one since it is also supported by UT2K7 … but only if I can see the real value in such a card.

Hopefully they learned from their mistakes they made with Auto Assault. An FPS game with UE3 and PhysX support? I gotta try that.
