Everyone found it incredibly hard to believe that Sony won an Emmy award for its Sixaxis controller, while the Wiimote was overlooked. Nevertheless, the company released a statement bragging about it. Hydrapinion did some research and found out that the award “Peripheral Development and Technological Impact of Video Game Controllers” was indeed gives for Sony, but also to another company, Nintendo.
Wait, it gets better; Sony didn’t win for it’s rip-off Sixaxis controller, but for the good old dual-shock. This is what SCEA CEO and President Jack Tretton said in a press release after they “won”,
“The overwhelming consumer demand and critical acclaim for PS3 is a testament of the platform’s strength and the industry’s desire for a true next-generation entertainment system”
Yes, Jack, except that you didn’t win anything for the PS3. Nice try Sony.
[Thanks, Monarky]

1Haha, this is so hilariouse. PR at it’s worst, and again, Sony don’t know what they’re talking about.

2Sony PR are notorious bullshitters in the industry. This is quite good for them sometimes they just pull facts out of their arses i.e. The predicted sales they release or the fact they always try and pass off console shipment figures as sales figures for their products

3Even the dual shock was not Sonys, they were suede 2 years ago by a small american comany for copyright infringment, WHICH THEY LOST!
God, is more Sony underhand shenanigans behind the scenes, who got the backhander!

4I cant believe this. The PS3 is like the dreamcast… Sony needs to admit the defeat at launch and stop claiming that the demand is SO HIGH and thats its such an incredible system, when everyone in america knows thats not true.

5This is too laugh … it’s so funny I actually have nothing to say really … except once again the Nintendo/Wii is the BOMB!!! Sorry I couldn’t help that.
I will say it again though … Sony had better rethink their strategy if they are going to do well this time around. That’s cool that Monarky actually pointed this out … he is definitely maturing and is becoming less of a fanboy and more of observer/commentator.

6No matter who’s in charge there, they seem to be messing up. The only thing they are not messed up in, is that their stock just shot up 6%!!! Six percent, that’s a money making jump that was probably fueled by a basicly flawless launch. No broken straps, no melted power cord fire recalls like X360. But this is probably the main reason right here:
http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4498&Itemid=2
SFG Research is one the most respected sales forcast projection companies on the planet. In the last generation console war that picked Sony by a big margin and they’re numbers aren’t that far off. But anyway they must be doing something right, they did take 2 Emmy’s, the other being for Xross Media Bar!
Sad part about this forcast is in spite of a great launch, Nintendo Wii is again picked to come in 3rd. X360 is picked to take the U.S. sales the next two years. But Worldwide, because Sony is so strong in Europe and Japan, they are picked to close the gap by the end of this year and take every year after that! They will 3Peat it seems.
We now have another Research firm saying it’s so. That makes 5 to only 1 for MS X360 and none picking Wii. Read the report to get a better picture, these people do know what they’re doing. Sorry, that doesn’t mean the Wii is not a successful console to it’s fans. They are just not a Monster Company!

Nobody predicted in favor of the DS either… Needless to say anymore. I predict Wii the winner. But I have been wrong before, as I also thought that the PSP would crush the DS.

9Nintendo decimated Sony this holiday season and will continue for the next couple of months until there is something actaully compelling to play on the PSP and PS3. I really think Sony has lost its mind and doesn’t know why people want a game system. TO PLAY GAMES. Not to listen to music or watch movies! Microsoft has a emphasis on multi-media stuff too but still there focus is on games and you can tell there focused on that. Sony choked and dropped the ball like Tony Romo in the play offs.

10That is very interesting info Monarky but I still find it hard to believe that people will just start buying into the PS3 without much better games and a price cut … and I don’t see either on the horizon before the other two companies continue to widen the gap. BC isn’t going to save them this time and that is what I think these research firms keep factoring in to their equations since there is such a large installed base of PS2s … but they will be replaced imho by 360s and Wiis this time around. It will be interesting to see the outcome though that is for certain. Blu-ray is just not the difference maker the DVD player of the PS2 was and I think also that people are not considering that.

11People who owns PS2′ are not gonna buy a PS3 just because they by any luck were satisfed with their PS2. If that was the case, then why didn’t all those snes people buy the N64? Well they didn’t, the bought the PSOne. And why has some people (Mr. “cough cough Mwuhahahaha”) such a hard time believing that sony’s popularity is sky diving at the moment?

@ Anubanoldman ”I still find it hard to believe… ”
Hmm, wich one of these opinions would sound more credible?
1. A Fanatic Fanboy who’s posts content can usually be described as either about himself or about promoting a certain brand of gaming system.
2. A raport made by an independent Respected electronics consumer research agency
Hmmm, I’ll go for option number two this time. But it’s a tough call, option 1. certainly seems quite avid on trying to give an honnest prediction about the outcome of the consolewars as well.

Sounds alot like Mr. “cough cough” if you ask me … there is no one who is more of a fanatic than you. At least I own two of the three consoles and if they start doing things the way they need to I will own all three … can you say the same?

16Hmmm … I wonder if that consumer research agency took this into accountn (all from youNewb):
“According to the latest Japanese gaming mag Famitsu, Konami has ceased development on 5 Playstation 3 titles. The games,
* Gradius
* Coded of arm: Assault
* Jikkyou Powerful pro Yakyuu (WTF?)
* Some new Action title
* Some new RPG
still aren’t showing up on Konami’s site, but they didn’t before either, which lists Hellboy (coming out sometime in the summer of 2007) as the only upcoming PS3 title. Now, does this mean that Konami is just going to stop all development on these titles or that maybe Peter Moore and his gold-plated grill was able to drop enough change in Konami’s pocket to get them to develop the games for his Xbox 360 instead? Still no official word on this from Konami though.”
Things continue to look somewhat bleak for Sony’s plan to become No.1 again in the console space (next gen of course). And add to that these two bits of news:
“Speaking of Xbox 360 exclusives, Dead Rising 2 is going to be exclusive to the Xbox 360 according to the latest EGM issue.”
“Sony had predicted that they would sell around 1 million Playstation 3s by the end of the year in Japan but recent figures from Japanese research firm Enterbrain state that Sony only managed to move 466,716 consoles in the time period beginning on the PS3’s Novemebr 11th launch and ending at the end of the year (2006). Sony recently announced that they had “shipped” 1 million PS3 consoles to North America but since they weren’t even able to hit 500,000 in Japan, they are going to fall way short of their goal to have sold 2 million PS3s globally.”
And shipped does not equal sold … so what will this mean for the future of Sony?
Meanwhile things just look great for Nintendo:
“With the latest figures, Nintendo sits on the cusp of selling its millionth Wii console in Japan. To Dec. 24, a total of 824,311 units had been sold, putting the million mark well within reach during the last week of the year as long as the company can keep supplies flowing into shops. In contrast, total sales of the PlayStation 3, which has been on sale for three weeks longer than Wii, totaled 385,791 units due to lower supply.” - From CIO
Add to this the fact that the Wii has sold over 3 million consoles (”the Wii has managed 3 million in a month”), and all of this is PROFIT for Nintendo which you just can’t beat … of course we are all anxiously awaiting more input about the number of units Sold (not just shipped) from NPD.
Of course outside the console wars Sony is doing pretty well I have to grant them that:
“Sony is also seeing some decent profits in their Sony Pictures division (grossed $3 billion worldwide) and their line of LCDs are posting some impressive numbers (31 percent market share vs Samsung’s 22 percent by the end of last year).”
And they managed to ship a million PS3s to North America meeting one of their forcasted sales projections … although many can still be found sitting on shelves so that has to be taken into account.

But if anyone can find a way and sound intelligent about it it is definitely Monarky who I am beginning to respect more and more … as long as he continues to be civil.

Dude, you sound like such a kitten sometimes! Shouldn’t you be blogging with the cast from ‘desperate housewives’?? lighten up, kiddo! and stop implying that people here can be so uncivil just because you take offense to comments so easily. Three words for you, Anuban: Logitech Keyboard Thread. So, please, don’t mention the word, ‘civil’ on this thread or any other thread, for that matter.

23Gotta say that was a sharp little comeback to Anuban, StMadnes!
But he will never admit that he blew chunks in that thread, and I’m sure he wants to keep that as his dark little secret. I mean he may be human and fallable after all. LOL
It would just be nice if he was not so dogmatic and infantilely insisting on always being right. If I was into astrology, I pick him as being a Leo, but I think more likely some sort of amagamated sum total of all the signs.
I wish him the best on somehow wishing and hoping for the complete and utter failure of Sony PS3, he so adamately assumes to be the case at this very moment. But I can assure you (since he won’t listen), “The King Lives”! Long Live the PS3! Long Live Sony! ;D

26“Sony proves once again that it is the supreme console brand of choice amongst gamers.”
Haha. Console of choice, will differ as fast as pop songs fly on and off the “charts”. We live in a time where marketing nearly does more for a company than the quality of the company does. That’s what killed E3, everyone was competing for the media spotlight and the best of the show awards etc, it was less of a game playing event and more of a big talk event. The console of choice is not always “the console of choice”, as sometimes people don’t know any better than what their friends have, a choice of one thing? I doubt I’m making sence. If sony can completely saturate the media with it’s ps3, then it will win because people know the brand because of last generation.
“there are tons of lost/confused fanboys out there praying for Sony’s downfall”
There are more people praying for sony’s victory.
