MTV To Buy 1UP?

January 11th, 2007 Posted in Articles, Business, Online

1upmtv.jpgAccording to GameDaily, 1UP might be bought by MTV Networks, from the current owner, Ziff Davis Media, who has expressed interest in selling the site. The two have been in negotiations since late 2006, as the financially troubled Ziff Davis Media is reportedly trying to sell its gaming division (1UP, EGM, Games For Windows Magazine). Meanwhile, MTV has bought GameTrailers.com, and has launched its own gaming section last year.

Furthermore, MTV recently bought Guitar Hero developer Harmonix for $175 million, and the popular online game service Shockwave.com. MTV is certainly moving into the gaming media, and 1UP will probably join them very soon.

MTV is certainly moving in this direction, and so are a lot of other Media outlets. AOL Games bought GameDaily, and even DigitalBattle was bought by a media company a few months ago.

Perhaps I should start a gaming site :)
