DigitalBattle was present at Capcom’s Lost Planet launch event, marking the North American launch of the anticipated third-person shooter. The crowd was a lot larger than I had expected it to be, and the noise level was pretty amazing as well. People of all types were at the launch and it truly was a great sight to see everyone talking about gaming and getting along so well. Just about every demographic over the age of 18 was represented, and San Francisco could not have been a better place for such an event to take place. Full story inside.

The atmosphere among the gamers was equally impressive as there were plenty of gaming stations setup for gamers to play Lost Planet and they were all full. People were waiting patiently for their chance to play and everyone was very polite. The buzz that I kept hearing was that the gameplay and graphics were very well received, and many people were comparing the graphics very favorably to Gears of Wars. I went around and around and kept my ears open and I did not hear one bit of harsh criticism about the game. From the amount of people intensely playing to those watching on with smiles and excited looks on their faces, you could tell that this game is definitely going to be greeted with open arms by most fans of the shooter genre. Not one person looked bored during my entire time covering the launch, which is always a pleasant thing.

All in all the launch event appeared to go very well and I am certain that this bodes very well for the game. I am looking forward to more Capcom launch events of this caliber, events filled with lots of gaming energy. The best type of energy you can find at these type of events. In fact this launch actually felt like a big get together of friends out having dinner and drinks and fun just hanging out gaming and having laughs. In the end it definitely appears that Capcom has another winner on their hands. Judging by the event, at least.

Some very interesting artwork. This gives you that Lost Planet feeling of an icy world.

How would you like to scale a Lost Planet mountain?

Legos anybody? Seriously though, this is what you can do if you are a true Lego artist.

Must’ve been fun. I was at a PSP launch event once (out of the dusing that were going on). It was basically filled with Sony reps and PSP demo stands. Not so cool. But they had free food and drinks :)

I would love to go to these kind of events as well … but until I get used to being back in school (and studying and doing the required assignment/reading and tests) my social life is going to pretty boring (so if there are some events after February I would probably try and get to those just to see how they are for myself at the very least). The one good thing though is that my gaming class requires us to play games and then keep a journal with at least 5 entries and there are a lot of questions the instructor asks so now I am forced to make time to play games and finish them … which actually makes them not as much fun but still if homework is playing games how bad can it be.

I did have this game reserved but I probably won’t get it until after I have rented it and if I like then I will shell out the bucks. The reviews so far are pretty good though:

Average on gamerrankings is 78% … check them out for yourself … http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/931114.asp

Yeah Launches are like a big lan party! Love em!

Anuban you get Vista Ultimate yet? I have the image uploaded on my Box.net account. Don’t even need a key if you just click enter to bypass that step. It then gives you a 14 day free look! I don’t have an extra key or I’d give you one that would take you through May.

If you set up an email account at http://www.goowy.com , which is just a killer email setup with 2gig storage, music player, games, custom widget setups like a desktop, messenger, etc! It comes with a Box.net acct, In box net if you are a member I could share the DVD image. Fast download as fast as MS! The design of Goowy is like Linux or OS-X very slick for a web page! Link to X360 Gears widgets:

On the link (must have Flash9), this can be your email desktop with click n drag widgets. You can try them here. Someone summited this one, but you can design your own. You can store a gig of music and videos to stream to your computer in IE or Firefox! It’s the absolute best Web Mail site on the Internet!

Thanks but I don’t even have the necessary disk space to run another OS at this time. I am hoping to do a major PC upgrade by the end of the month and also get a dual core processor so when I do that I will be ready to move up to Vista (Ultimate or just regular to get started). Plus I wonder how it will be to upgrade but not have a DX10 gpu yet. I may just wait until I get everything on the hardware side upgraded since I am going Vista anyway … and I may wait until some games actually come out. At this point I am only thinking about school so gaming on the PC is taking a backseat.

It’s a shame that we hardly ever hear about launch events like this for games in NY. Seems like Cali is the place to be if you’re an American who loves gaming.
