Interesting take on the PS3 from the main man at Valve:

" Valve Head Man: "The PS3 Is A Total Disaster"

Quoting an interview from the recent Game Informer magazine, Computer and Video Games is reporting that Valve's head man Gabe Newell has some harsh words for Sony's Playstation 3 console, saying "The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted." He added that Sony should "just cancel it and do a do over. Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it'". However, Newell praises Nintendo's Wii console saying he feels that the Wii will have a larger install base next Christmas than Microsoft's Xbox 360 console."

Interesting though that his next major project "Half-life 2 Orange is going to be for the PS3 as well as the Xbox 360. I guess it is safe to assume that this is another title on the PS3 that won't be in 1080p and that won't look any better than its 360 counterpart. I wonder how many units this HL2O will sell on both sides.

I think it's weird in a way. I already finished HL1. So I'm kind of at a loss. Then again, I did like the GLdoom mods:P But that's considerably less work.

This whole thing reminds me of the idiots who tried to run total annihilation on the unreal2 engine. The question bottles up: who cares?

It says you need HL2 not HL:S in order to play it. :)

If there were better and/or easier to use SDK's for popular games like Doom 3 and HL2 we would probably see more mods out there that could potentially become more popular than newly released games. I think the Black Mesa mod shows real potential in being more popular than HL:S ever was. It's the way it should have been made.

Evander:
Excellent post! I have always loved mods cuz they're always made by gamers for gamers. Truth be told the Half Life series is one of my favs! And who can ever forget Mr. Freeman. I'm playing Resistance and you can tell stuff was borrowed from this series. Just like Gears getting it's combat system from Kill Switch! Will be checking it out! Only problem is I will have to reinstall HL source. Which is not real appealing. It's slow process. But this may be worth it! Thanks!

If anyone is interested you can check out this website where someone is making a Black Mesa mod.
http://mods.moddb.com/4384/black-mesa-source/

Here is some info about it.

"Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.

Black Mesa was built and founded on the principle that Half-Life: Source did not do the original title enough credit, regardless of the true intentions laid out with the release of Half-Life: Source by Valve Software. Subsequently in November 2004, Black Mesa was founded and set out to reconstruct the original title, giving it the new environments, models, and abilities it deserved on the Source engine. This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source installed on your system to play, only a legitimate and working version of Half-Life 2. At the present time, Valve Software is not associated or involved with the development of this project.

Here is a small list of planned features of Black Mesa:
* Redesign and overhaul of all 18 chapters, the hazard course and deathmatch levels of the original Half-Life and Half-Life DeathMatch games.
* Models now take advantage of increased polycount limits and normal mapping technology making deadly opponents and friendly coworkers appear more real.
* A completely original soundtrack and music library bringing Half-Life's themes and feelings to life in the new sounds engine built into the Source Engine.
* Artifical Intelligence that will hunt you by sight and sound.
* Normal, bump and specular maps built into textures giving flat surfaces a new, more dynamic look.
* Co-operative mode, allowing you and your friends to play through Black Mesa together.
* The entire cast and characters that the world fell in love with more beauty than ever before, bringing truth to the saying, "if looks could kill..."
* A multiplayer mode allowing for deathmatch and team deathmatch experience with the complete Half-Life 1/Black Mesa Aresonal at your disposal.
* A priority on gameplay and immersion factors such as sounds, functionality and interaction.
* Built by developers who's passion is seen through the quality of their work. "

HL:Source was horrible, this will help make up for it.

Best part of HL1 and HL2 is "Counter Strike"! Other than that, it's way too old and moldy to play now. Played em on PC what 2 maybe more years ago.

Just heard X360's losing another Exclusive. That's two in two weeks! That puts PS3 up by one on losing exclusives.

Saints Row coming to PS3 in May!

Yeah same here tidles. HL2 sucked big imo. HL1 was fun though.

Still it's a lot of shooting for those people, so it's value for money. The team fortress, lame as the graphics look, is still a nice buy.

I'd happily pay $60 for HL2, Episode 1 and 2, Portal and TF. That's a lot of value, and I've only played through HL2 once, wouldn't mind doing it on the 360 second time. If only to get more Acheivement points :)

And tidles, DigitalBattle has the same amount of advertising as other profesional news blogs, if not less. Take a look at Weblogs inc (Joystiq etc.).

I bought HL2 on the basis of the reviews... everything about it felt pre-scripted, baddies pooped up at the same place every time you died, missions were all very linear... I was a big HL1 fan, this version sucks balls... big time.
