WTF Moments of 2006

Finished reading all those top ten of 2006 lists? Well, here’s another one. 1UP has posted this fine wrap-up of 2006’s most WTF Moments, listing the weirdest moments in gaming of the past year. Here’s my favorite, from Nintendo’s Revolution name-change announcement:
Even now we still can’t help but feel that Nintendo is secretly laughing at us every time we say it. And somehow, that’s better than the alternative: that until someone makes a bit of software that’ll check product names in the language of every country they’ll be exported to, we’ll just have to go on living in a world where the Japanese keep naming their computers with cute words we’ve made up for our dicks.
Numbers 3, 5 and 7 were pretty odd in 2006, too. Got anything to add to that list?

I agree, naming it “Wii” certinaly raised a few eyebrows, but look at it now, the name managed to grab the mainstream audience perfectly.

I still like Revolution better than Wii but clever marketing has really paid off. Plus how much of a revolution could it have been given the graphics are so far behind current next gen systems? Maybe if it was next gen looking as well as the gameplay then it truly would be a revolution. Still the name is cool and maybe in the future Nintendo will use it.

Revolution was a cool name, and I like it more than Wii. But when you think about it for a moment, it’s better marketing calling it Wii. The reason is that they should have a name that everybody in the world could prenounce. And then the word revolution could be misinterpreted in some parts of the world. And Wii sounds “NICE”:), doesn’t it?

I agree with Anuban. People are alway’s getting PlayStation, and Xbox mixed up let alone what the 3 an 360 do, but I have never, ever heard of someone forgetting the name Wii.

Stands as the worst named person or thing since some guy called his son Sue! I’ve had so much fun making fun of that name. In 5 years it will go down as absolutely the worst name in history. People will say Wii and crack a smile. It will be the Butt end of jokes forever.
Wii Moments will be used daily as something bizarre and it will be used more than “Google it”!
No one will remember it was a game console!
