Half Of 360 Owners Didn’t Own An Xbox
January 19th, 2007 by George Lester-Pearson in BusinessIn an interview with Gamesindusty.biz, Chris Satchell of Microsoft has spoken about the sales of the Xbox 360, most importantly talking about whether the fan base is mainly made up of upgraders.
“We’ve sold 10.4 million, but the stat you may not have heard is that over half of those sales are from people that didn’t own an Xbox 1. So there’re lots of new people coming in, which kind of surprises you. What we’re actually finding is that our customer set is broadening, which we think is important.”
Skeptics have been quick to point out that 10.4 million consoles is the number shipped out to manufacturers and not a reflection of the amount sold. However if these figures are true, it suggests that Xbox 360 owners aren’t all simply people who bought the Xbox. He also neglects to mention how many Xbox owners got a 360, or how this information was obtained.

Quartecks - based on the few comments I have read from you (I am new here) I would say you are “mac” person?
BTW - HA!

Yes, and proud of it! But seriously, how do you justify trying to make it seem like Zune had 25%, when it only had 2%?

Always wanted an Xbox, bought a 360 because it was cheaper and I am very happy I did. After I got mine I took it over to a couple of friends and they each went and got their own. I think the 360 is great, and maybe someday when the PS3 gets cheaper I will get on of those. I’m way past the pont of fanboyism… I’m still playing my nes! Go everyone that makes great games and great systems! I care not who you are, just keep it comming-

I myself had an xbox that I bought when Halo 2 came out, but I never even bothered to do xbox live. Now with my 360 I almost felt it neccessary to use xbox live to take full advantage of what the system offers.

Once again, this has a lot to do with the fact that 360 has been out for a year. Chances are that the Xbox fans who were going to get a 360 got one right away, so it’s fair to assume that most of the people who got it after the 5-6 month point were mainly none Xbox fans, or people ho couldn’t wait for, or afford the PS3. Like The Wckerman said, PS3’s are quite available now because the people who got it at the beginning were PS3 fans, other than those who are waiting for a price drop, the PS3 isn’t selling out, which means that it doesn’t appeal to anyone other than a PS fan. Of course there are always exceptions but the general statement is true.

It will periodically go up as people who’ve been saving up get enough money, but nothing big.

Yeah, same with Wii, right now there’s Twilight Princess, and if your a vet zelda player that only last for two weeks if you only play a bit each day and don’t just play it through in one day. it just isn’t enough to keep hardcore gamer’s interest. I’m hoping the Galaxy and MP3 are released soon because until they are there doesn’t seem to be much to look forward to.

I didn’t own an Xbox, could never dream of owning one. I saw it as MS’s half assed attempt to get in on the gaming market, it was the next Dreamcast. Withoug Halo and the 1/2 billion in marketing, the Xbox would have been worse than the Dreamcast.
