I saw it as MS's half assed attempt to get in on the gaming market, it was the next Dreamcast. Withoug Halo and the 1/2 billion in marketing, the Xbox would have been worse than the Dreamcast. I'm hoping the Galaxy and MP3 are released soon because until they are there doesn't seem to be much to look forward to. Chances are that the Xbox fans who were going to get a 360 got one right away, so it's fair to assume that most of the people who got it after the 5-6 month point were mainly none Xbox fans, or people ho couldn't wait for, or afford the PS3. Like The Wckerman said, PS3's are quite available now because the people who got it at the beginning were PS3 fans, other than those who are waiting for a price drop, the PS3 isn't selling out, which means that it doesn't appeal to anyone other than a PS fan. Of course there are always exceptions but the general statement is true. Once again, this has a lot to do with the fact that 360 has been out for a year. Now with my 360 I almost felt it neccessary to use xbox live to take full advantage of what the system offers.
