Bungie: We Screwed Up Halo 2
Chris Butcher of Bungie Studios, in an interview with Edge Magazine, stated that Bungie made many mistakes with Halo 2. It is the first time anyone from Bungie came out and admitted that they felt the game wasn’t what it should have been. We all know that Halo 2 didn’t have the best story, nor the best ending, to say the least. A quote from Butcher:
“We miscalculated, we screwed up, we came down to the wire and we just lost all of that. So Halo 2 is far less than it could and should be in many ways because of that. It kills me to think of it. Even the multiplayer experience for Halo 2 is a pale shadow of what it could and should have been if we had gotten the timing of our schedule right. It’s astounding to me. I f*cking cannot play Halo 2 multiplayer. I cannot do it. And that’s why I know Halo 3 is going to be so much better.”
Hopefully, for gamers everywhere, he is right when he says Halo 3 will be so much better. According to an ex-Bungie developer, Halo 3’s Xbox Live features are “years ahead of everything that’s out there”. We’ll see.

Halo2 did only well because of the hype, it didn’t deserve the credit it got because MS forced a release for the holiday season. Hopefully they won’t do the same to Halo 3 this holiday season.

I am even more confident that Halo 3 will be an awesome game and experience after reading this article. No Halo 2 was not great but it was and still is a pretty fun game. I don’t think it will be a forced or rushed release. They still have plenty of time to optimize the game and make it better plus the open beta is coming out and they’ll take feedback from that and use it to make the game better. After UT2K7 this is my most anticipated game for this year.

Yes, but Halo 3 is the ed of the series. As Halo Wars shows, there isn’t much tolerance among the halo junkies for anything other than a series specific game.

The Perfect Halo was already made! Bungie, a nothing company stumbled into making their first game on Xbox with the perfect combination of story, humor, tactics, weapons and tremendous characters. The online of Halo is what made Xbox Live a success then. They scored a 10 just walking through the door with that game. Pretty tough to score that 10 again.
Then came Halo 2, hyped beyond belief, was just too much for Halo 2 to live up to, with Microsoft screaming demands for the Holliday release. The results were less than mediocre. Glitches a truck could drive through. Absolutely no real story and the ending was anything less than spectacular or even good. It sold the most copies of any “B” game out. Halo fans still claimed to love Halo with puke dripping down their face. It was in reality from the outside looking in. A complete disaster!
Now comes the great redeemer, the lord of all that is Xbox, the king of Xbox shooters, for a third time. What can we expect? Well for one, anything will be better than Halo 2. Do nothing, and it would be better!
Will it best the best of the original Halo? Well like I said on a scale of 1 to 10 it was a 10 the first time, so NO! Bungie should have done something different to score another 10! So maybe an 8 or 9, but with so much competition now, it can never be a 10 again!
Because it will always be missing the magic of that moment. Too big of britches to fill!

I disagree. Halo 2 is awesome. I don’t really care about it’s multiplayer (which I still do play from time to time because I like it), however everything about it’s campaign is just amazing. Admittedly, they perhaps didn’t get the time to polish the game like they did with Halo 1 and 3, but I still play Halo 2 all the time. It’s a wonderful game, and I’m gonna have to disagree with Mr. Butcher here.
