dsliteeurope.jpgNintendo has announced that the DS and DS Lite have sold over 10 million units combined in Europe. The portable console launched in March 2005, with the DS Lite launching a year later. This makes the DS the fastest selling console in Europe ever. In December alone, 1,5 million units were sold across Europe, making it the best selling console last holiday season.

On the software side, the best selling game is Nintendogs, with 5 million copies sold. Brain Age has sold 2 million to date, while New Super Mario Bros., Animal Crossing, Mario Kart DS, and Super Mario 64 have all sold over one million copies each.

I think even Nintendo underestimated the European market on the portable side. 10 million in a year and a half is amazing, even for a cheap handheld console. Don’t be surprised if it sells another 10 million in Europe in 2007 alone.

I think a lot of companys underestimates the European market. Some games even sells most in Europe, but that’s not enough to open the eyes of software and hardware developers.

Btw, yoy gotta love to hate that kinky picture

  4. Ruined Says:

Just to quantify that figure, the previous record was held by PS2 which took over three months longer to reach 10 million.

  5. Keil Joy Says:

yeah, they made millions off of that thing.. and i’m proud to say that not a dime came from ME!!

  6. Quartecks Says:

…. Yeah, and why are you so proud of that?

  7. Qtrain2Brooklyn Says:

nintendogs, 5 mil copies?? Dayum!! has anyone here played nintendogs? I don’t have a DS but the game itself looks kind of cool. Can anyone who’s played this game tell me if it lives up to the hype?

  8. Keil Joy Says:

not particularly proud, really. Just still can’t identify with what has people flocking to this thing! Aside from what appears to be some non-conventional titles here and there like, “Trauma Center, Nintendogs or Ace Attorney,” I don’t see much else of a game library worth looking into. That’s why I’m trippin’ out over the sales #s for this thing.

  9. Quartecks Says:

Meh, it’s kind of like the GameBoy, it’s just simple innocent fun.

  10. StMadnes Says:

Sorry, but I can’t be seen playing kiddie games! and three or four adult-friendly titles are not enough to get me to buy DS Lite. I take it that it’s mostly used by young people who don’t necessarily play looking for a submersive gaming experience. I guess that’s why the DS can put out a thousand different Marios and watch them all sell like hotcakes! Simple innocent fun is okay. But i can get that on my cell phone.

Portable Ops over Mario Kart any freekin day!!
