One of the most hardware demanding games on the PC, FEAR, is now running on an ultra mobile PC, Samsung’s Q1. The 1,7 pound PC has a 900 MHz Intel Celeron M ULV, 512 MB of RAM and 20 GB of storage. The game runs pretty smooth even with some effects turned on. A similar setup on a regular PC wouldn’t run the game at all.

how’d he get it to work on that, my computer is slightly better and i have to have most thngs on low and put the directx down. maybe he had a really good gfx card?

  2. Monarky Says:

This is as fake as it gets!!! You never see him actually use a controller even. What’s with the wierd transitions that take up the whole screen too. Doesn’t have the graphics card to do even close to this either.

    It’s a joke!!! Mwaa… ha… ha…. and you all believe it!

  3. Alex Says:

Monarky you ignorant fool; he HAS to use external keyboard + mouse since the UMPC doesn’t HAVE a keyboard and mouse!

  4. Monarky Says:

F**K YOU ALEX! That doesn’t prove sh*t! The truth is and you should know it. The hardware does not support “Fear” on that piece of equipment. I have more than 4 computers and a laptop twice the power of that piece of junk and it can’t run “Fear”! Check the facts of the hardware to the game minimum requirements to get the truth!

  5. monir Says:

well what if he is just running fear with nothing in the background? could it work then?

  6. Alex Says:

It’s FEAR on low low settings, samsung used the Q1 to show off the custom graphics chip by running WoW and UT2004 on it when it launched last year.

“F**K YOU ALEX! That doesn’t prove sh*t!” Uhh, you sound like a tough guy there, don’t you?

  7. Monarky Says:

Running WoW and UT2004 is alot different than Fear!

Specs for game: Requirements – US version of Windows 2000/XP with latest service pack installed / DirectX 9.0c or higher / PC with Intel Pentium 4 1.7 GHz or equivalent / 512MB RAM / 64MB DirectX 9.0 compliant video card with pixel shader support

Specs for Samsung Q1: Custom GPU???
Intel 915 with a max 32mg set GPU set aside in the bios.
Intel Celeron 900mhz Proc half the speed required for the game. Screen can only handle running at just 800X480
LCD 7″ WVGA (200 nit, 800 X 480). So I say he is just running a video of the game from his PC! Like I said I have a 1.8ghz Toshiba laptop 512mg/32mg set aside for GPU 915GMS Intel chipset and it won’t run the game (just tried it to make sure). Requires pixel shaders that mobile chip doesn’t have! Must have either ATI or Nvidia!!!

  8. Alex Says:

Monarky, The game runs a 640×480 tops, plus it doesn’t have to be the fully featured PC version, if you’re a good programmer you can optimize anything.

Heck, there are people who manage to squeeze a bootable Win XP on a 128 MB flash drive.

And I’d advise you to change your attitude before you get banned from here.

  9. Monarky Says:

Alex! Not any different than your attitude toward me. The lowest settings available in the game are 800×600. Sorry but no way 900mhz proc will run the game. That 915GSM chip will not handle it, that’s a fact I just verified. Especially since he would be running (if he is?) both a USB keyboard and mouse and there is only one item shown plugged in on the right side. Only has two USB ports, one on either side. Power Supply couldn’t handle it playing a game. Now if he was playing the game with the joystick and built-in controls, I would be more inclined to believe it. But he’s not! No mouse or keyboard or any shadows of movement indicating he’s using them. Just a fake video that come on YouTube all the time!

  10. Jim2k Says:

Monarky, you just don’t get it, do you?

It doesn’t have to be the retail version of FEAR, the guy did some custom programming, compressing textures, whatever, and made it run on the Q1.

  11. Monarky Says:

    Re: Jim2k

First off he doesn’t have the external drive even hooked up. But if this was true he would state it and not set it up to look like he’s using the game disk with the case in front at first. That drive hooks into the left side of Q1, nothing there. Nothing but the power supply and some kind of USB leading to the back is shown on the right side. He should authencate his use of a Blue Tooth or whatever mouse and keyboard he’s using.

Now if this guy has some miracle way of getting not only past SecurRom to use a No-CD hack is one thing. But by showing the game case he gives himself away. No pieces and parted stripped down game is going to run like that and look like that! Period! Other games I might believe it, cuz I’ve done it. But not off a DVD with copy protection still intact.

But now we’re back to my statement that the Intel 915GSM integrated GPU does not support the playing of “Fear”! I don’t care how fast of a processor you’re running, how disasembled the code on a diet is. But I will know more next week, because I will be visiting a friend that has the Q1. He doesn’t have the game, but I do. He says games are very limited and playing on that 7″ screen is not even worth it. 7″ is just 2.5 inches greater than PSP’s Wide Screen.

I posted the video on Youtube. Its 100% REAL.

To answer some of the disbelief…

    1. Game is running in 640 x 480 with low settings.
    2. No there is no DVD drive hooked up becuase its running the downloadable DEMO of FEAR.
    3. I posted a second video showing more of the setup and me using the controls.
    4. ITS NOT A VIDEO running.
    5. NO optimization to game code was done becuase I dont know how to do that.
