WoW Burning Crusade Sells 2.4m In 24 Hours
Blizzard has announced that their World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade expansion sold a whopping 2.4 million copies during the first 24 hours in North America and Europe, making it the fastest selling PC game of all time. 1.2 million copies were sold in North America, while 1.1 million were sold in Europe. The rest was sold in Australia and New Zealand, and a few Asian countries. Blizzard has already shipped more than 4 million copies of the game to retailers, who still can’t guarantee that there will be enough games for everyone.
Mike Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, says:
“The Burning Crusade has already exceeded even our most ambitious expectations. We’re pleased that so many players are eager to see all of the new content that the expansion has to offer, and we look forward to seeing everyone online as additional players continue to upgrade in the days ahead.”
Earlier this month, World of Warcraft surpassed the 8 million subscribers mark, making it by far the most popular MMO today.

This is SICK! No wonder why Blizzard plans to release an expansion every year

8 million subscribers?? This has got to be game crack!! I think i’m gonna go and pick up a copy of this game just to see what the hell is all the hysteria about.
January 24th, 2007 at 12:22 am
Yep I have a friend in total denial. Lost his job, his wife and is now looking for a place to live. Seen him go days without eating, sleeping, or showering. Knock on his door and he looks like a character from “Dead Rising”! Married just 8months. Tragic story!
Even worse than “EverCrack”!

I used to play WoW, but I didn’t quit until I went on a vacation for about a week. The trick to breaking the addiction is to just get over the hump. After that, it’s been pretty easy staying away from it, even with all the hype surrounding BC.
January 24th, 2007 at 1:24 am
Never got into WoW and never will. It just demands too much time for any person who is trying to keep up with the real world and all that it demands.
January 24th, 2007 at 1:28 am
A new WoW expansion every year… Blizzard will keep these WoW addicts for eternety. Like the drugdealers keeping the junkies “supplied”
January 24th, 2007 at 1:43 am
Does anyone else think this is kind of unethical of Blizzard? I mean, it’s great business for them… but the same can be said for cigarette manufacturers right?
At what point to we have to do something about it? When the GDP of most developed countries actually declines as a result of game playing I’m getting a little concerned…
Think about the number of lost work hours from 8 million people.
On the bright side, maybe this’ll do something to slow the world population explosion… I’d say at least 50% of those addicts aren’t planning on making the time to reproduce anytime soon… haha
January 24th, 2007 at 1:48 am
Tom: It’s not unethical, yeah there are a lot of “work hours”, but gaming in general contributes to that.
And so does watching TV/Movies, reading books, going to football games and concerts as well.
January 24th, 2007 at 1:52 am
Its an addiction thats ‘Ruining’ the world when its an online game, but sit in front of TV 4 or 5 nights a week for 3 hours and its considered a normal activity.
The people listing their or a friends “addiction” to this game is just as dumb and being a idiot who can’t hold a Wii controller and threw it at their TV.
Give me a break there isn’t a huge amount of people addicted to this game. Its a small small amount of people and the rest are making it up.
January 24th, 2007 at 2:02 am
Yeah, this game really is crack I used to play it I just quit about 6 months ago. My advice to everyone here is DO NOT GET THIS GAME. It really can screw up your life, I wasted way to many hours playing it. Yes it may be fun as hell but it will end up eating more and more into your own life because the entire aspect of gaining new equipment requires you spend 3-6 hours at a time on raids or be left behind by your guild so you end up playing more than you intend to do better.
January 24th, 2007 at 2:16 am
I played this game for the last half of summer break… I didn’t leave my house to do anything for the rest of summer and first month of school. Then I quit and gave my account to a friend to prevent me from coming back.
This game is simply way to addicting, but I don’t know if I would call it fun…
There has been 2 time I’ve been in a game store where I almost bought a new copy of WoW, thankfully I haven’t.
Don’t play this game.
January 24th, 2007 at 2:16 am
@Tom
Get your nanny state mentality out of my game playing world. What’s the difference between playing a computer game and watching TV, or making model airplanes?
I save a tremendous amount of money paying only $15 a month for something that keeps me entertained for hours and hours on end. I still read over 50 books a year. It takes me 2 hours to read a book that I pay $10 for.
Go to a movie… $40 at least with snacks.
People with addictions will become addicted to something, whether it’s drinking, drugs, gambling or playing video games. Of all these evils, I think video games cause the least amount of harm myself.
January 24th, 2007 at 2:19 am
^agreed, this game is a complete waste of life, you don’t have L33t skillz if you spend 100 hours raiding to get a piece of cloth armour. i stopped after i got annoyed with friends complaining that i can’t stay on more than 3 hours to raid with them. complete bullshit, waste of time, hope the people that have this game die of dehydration and lack of sleep, all they deserve.
January 24th, 2007 at 2:54 am
What a waste of a life.
January 24th, 2007 at 3:36 am
Maan! I’ve definately got to get this game now! lol
January 24th, 2007 at 3:46 am
Anyone who lets this game ruin their life, has absolutely no self-control or sense of priorities. I started playing WoW when I got to college a year and a half ago; I have a 3.8 gpa, I’m soon to be working two jobs and I shower regularly. I have lots of friends, many of whom play WoW, and it’s just something we do for fun on the weekends or after classes if we have time. Large raids really aren’t necessary anymore with BC. It’s easy to get decent gear just questing with a couple friends now, so it’s possible to get by in a small guild of close friends. That’s when WoW is the most fun anyways, when you are playing with close friends. It’s not wasting your life, it’s just like doing any other activity with your friends. When I think about the fact that many of my peers are spending their weekends getting wasted and coming to class on Monday with hangovers, I’d say I’m spending my time more wisely playing WoW.

And the reason you need that decent gear? To show off your l33t skillz…thats what they all do.
January 24th, 2007 at 6:08 am
My friends and I enjoy to get wasted and play this game on the weekends. Very enjoyable to laugh at all the stupid people in the game who keep fucking up. Very enjoyable to get together with your real life friends and go raiding and killing shit. I don’t see how this is any different from the XBox Live experience.
January 24th, 2007 at 10:10 am
more likely so they feel like they’ve achieved some thing from all the time they’ve wasted.
January 24th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
“And the reason you need that decent gear? To show off your l33t skillz…thats what they all do.”
no, actually you need good gear to be able to defeat harder enemies to get even better gear (and to show off while youre doing it, ofc). its a vicious circle and also the essence of most MMORPGs.
January 24th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
my point is that getting the gear does not make you any better. i had a warlock in the azeroth server over a year ago, i hardly had any raiding gear and i was one of the best in pvp. got bored because i would have to play for pointless, countless hours a month just to keep the point thingy up to get the next rank. w-a-s-t-e-of-t-i-m-e.
January 25th, 2007 at 12:26 am
…but getting better gear does make you better.
January 25th, 2007 at 1:59 am
but the point is… its pointless and a huge waste of time, and no getting good gear does not necessarily make you better as i said before, i didn’t have the time to raid for all the pointless gear but was one of the top pvp’ers. those awful memory’s have been burned in my mind for the rest of my life, and i have that heroin game to thank for it.

My wife sent this to me today, and I’m very sorry to say that the more emotionally intelligent gender of our species (maybe the more intelligent in general ) is seriously at odds with my way of seeing home life: a much better way to make the home a better place would be if sex was limited to not just 4 times a week, but 7 times a week This is off topic but my way of saying “hi” as a newbie.
“We all want our homes to reward us that calming effect after a busy day. One of the ways to get calming interiors is by selecting relaxing colors and soft lighting. White or light colors have a comforting effect to the eyes and senses. However, overdoing the white walls might just create a too-sterilized ambiance. To keep away from being too monotonous, use highlights like gold or yellow here and there. For your lighting, dimmer lights and soft glows will not only calm your tired nerves but create drama in your interiors.
The placement of candles near mirrors, for example, would reflect the soft glow and add to that romantic sensation.”

ohhhh common, people that havent played this game cant possibly give their opinion about it…..
people who played this game and said is addicted is reallly weakminded, its a game, its supposed to be for fun, and what is great about it is that is never the same (people u meet, things u do, duels u do).
i play this game whenever i feel tired of the rutine, and even from the other games, but it is not an adiction

if he’s playing world of warcraft, smack him and tell him to cancel his account and have sex with you, if he says WoW is important, there’s nothing else to do other than break-up. he is clearly insane and quite a moron.
December 27th, 2007 at 12:59 am
If you find yourself addicted to wow just go play a private server yeah, you can cure wow with more wow. I know private servers might be bad thought of but they help alot. Find a high rate server, you play hours and hours of wow just to level to seventy so you can be epic. Just go to a server level up to seventy in one kill and you will beable to feel how it is to be a seventy, after you experience this you will be on for just a few hours and maybe a occasional eight hours when your having fun with your friends. And yeah wow is not a waste of time, in the end most things you do is a waste of time so dont say wow is just the one thing. I dont see how people get addicted to wow , i played it for years but I walked away from it anyway because i just dont get addicted to games, but maybe it is the problem with people getting addicted is the parts where people say wow is addicting dont play youll get addicted, Maybe when they say that they get a thought in the back of there head that they dont know but its there and when they play the feel addicted. Or maybe everyone thinks its addicted because there friends spend hours working to achieve one thing and you can not give them thirty more minutes to achieve there goal. It is like if you are working on a model car, if someone comes in and tells me to stop playing with that thing and get a life i am going to say dude Ive been working on this for hours and Im gonna finish it before I go do the stupid crap that is not important. You wow-aholics just realize wow is not the addiction until you make it the addiction in your head. I dont see why we whine at the eight million people that are playing wow but we dont make a big enough deal about obese people or the ice caps being gone by atleast 2013. Or the ammount of underaged smoking or drinking.
