Crytek Recommends Upgrading To Vista ASAP

January 31st, 2007 by Matt Stone in Business

Crytek boss Cevat Yerli spoke to FiringSquad about, you guessed right, Crysis. They talk about the technical aspect of the game, graphics, AI, phyics, and of course, DirectX 10. Yerli pointed out that DX10 not only generates better particle effects and visual quality, it also runs faster than DX9. He mentioned that while it didn’t add anything in particular concerning gameplay, it could add an advantage to DX10 users in the PvP multiplayer part of the game.

Both versions of the game play are exactly the same though, while in Multiplayer we are evaluating technologies that may benefit gameplay in DX10 to finally enrich that PvP experience to a new level.

He added: “Given the host of improvements Windows Vista offers for gamers though, we would recommend upgrading as soon as possible”. With no games today supporting DX10, no affordable hardware, and Crysis being at least six months away, there aren’t many reasons to go out and spend a few hundred bucks on Vista anytime soon.

At the moment there is just no compelling reason to upgrade to Vista. Not even Halo 2 shipped out with it and that would at least ensured that a good amount of people would have done the upgrade. Plus there is only DX10 GPU available for purchase and that just isn’t cutting it. Best to wait until at least the summer imo when their will be more available hardware and the prices should be a bit better plus maybe one DX10 will be ready.

I don’t get it, I have 2 x 7950gx2’s does this mean they can’t run DX10 and only 8800’s can run dx10? What a waste of money. DX10 is only software tho!

  3. tidles Says:

Crytek make good game engines but sucky games… so no, good try but Ill wait AT LEAST a year. All the current reviews of Vista say it sucks the big one.

  4. Quartecks Says:

Hehe, what did I say? Vista is bull.

  5. The Wicker Man Says:

hey hugh j ass what the hell is the matter with u !!!!!
u just wasted so much money, your cards i dont think will even last that long. Your running i think 48 pixel, hoping u have a 680i mother board ull have 96 pixels. but a 8800 gtx has 128 and dx10.

this is why i only bought a cheap 7900gs cuz i will max out crysis on dx9 no problem cuz the 8200 will crush the 7950,if i were u i would think about asking to bring that back.

It also uses 500-600MB of RAM in idle mode :-/
There is no way I’m buying Vista until at least SP1 is released and after that it’ll only happen if I need a new PC. Spending over $3K just to play Crysis won’t be happening.

  8. The Wicker Man Says:

see another person thinking u need 3k to run crysis! wrong!

josh are u the josh from gametrailers?

ppl u dont need 3 k wait and be smart on what u fing buy and u wont need it.

i can build a pc right now under 2k

    8200 gtx
intel duo e6400 these bitches overclock mad, easy to 3 ghz
2 gb of corsair or gskill ddr2 800
    a decent 680i board evage
    700 watt psu,shit even a 600 can run a 8800gtx
    18x samsung lightscribe dvdr/-

we r talking a good 1200-1400 bucks here

Gee Anuban, that sounds like something I’ve already said! A week into the full release installed over Vista RC1 hasn’t changed my mind, either! Vista equals warmed over WinXP and will still get hit by viruses and malware taking the polish off it’s glossy exterior.

Pay through the nose to have the internet stomp on your toes. Why would we need Vista for ONE LOSEY DX10 Game over the next year? If I want a great Special Effects Desktop, then you’ll see I already have it!

eHome’s Alex Grundner picked the video of my old 2nd puter desktop to compare to Vista and OS-X, 6 months ago. Click to see who Won, but watch the videos before voting!

You bring the voice of inteligent and fair minded posting to another severely slanted web site with the likes Charmin Armin spreading his rubbish, lies and half truths!

  12. Monarky Says:

Re: Install link! Linux is better than OS-X and you don’t have to be an American or Rich to appreciate it. Sabayon Linux is Free and easy to install. You can even run the OS as a Live CD/DVD, to test it out. You like it, install it. If you don’t know Linux, watch these.

Looks like Apple OS-X here. I prefer my own style. With Xgl Linux it can be anything!
I run WinXP right in Linux on one side of the cube windows programs.

This is Sabayon Linux very simple to install even for a Dutchman here. Arabic, French and Italian too!

Sabayon site for download. Torrents are fast. Comes with Myth Media Center and Quake IV (not sure). MythTV like Vista Media Center.

When you have it burned to disk, reboot to CD/DVD drive. Mini install on 700mg CD and Full install is on DVD. At the Boot Prompt, check to see any options that apply to your machine, then click Enter. Starts live with XGL Special Effects, if you have a supported GPU card.

Now features music to boot by, your choice. Once booted, you can simply click the install icon on the Live desktop. It will install in twenty to thirty minutes. You can browse the web with Firefox while you wait. When it’s done just reboot!

You idiots forget UT3 and a whole lot more games that will run in Linux. Once they get the drivers for running Winblows right in Linux, you will have no excuse!

Morons and losers are the only ones to believe the Microcrap hype! Why not get the facts first! This post was an answer to a Linux Question, but obviously you didn’t see the videos I linked. If you want to see Most games running in Linux, let me know I can link you to the future of gaming and it’s not on Windows!

The probability of Crytek, enabling OpenGL support grows greater everyday with Nvidia themselves blasting DX10 support of it’s many added GPU features! GET THE FACTS, and at least download this Live CD Linux to sample what you are missing!

Nvidia after all is involved in actively creating the next generations of OpenGL with AMD as well! It’s time to fuel the revolution against a tyrant like Microsoft! Not support their freaking Monopoly!

I run Windows on Linux right now! In 3 to 4 months I will have games running on Winblows right in Linux.

The Wine Project and other tools are working to run EXE’s right in Linux itself. One even now supports almost all Windows games directly in Linux. Why do you think even Microsoft is trying to put money into Open Source Linux?

  14. Monarky Says:

BTW Right now with Sony PS3, BluRay is on target to anhiliate HD-DVD. It has now become apparent that the X360 people have abandoned support of this format. With under 80,000 being bought world wide over 3 months of sales and Millions of PS3’s being sold with BluRay!

What else does Sony PS3 have? LINUX! How many millions of people more will be running Linux as it moves over the next 5 years to a PS3 Peat?

If you bought Vista to play Quake Wars from id software, think again! But you will be able to play it on Linux, faster and better than on Winblows anything!

  15. apo Says:

will crysis run on an fx5200 at lowwwwweessst posible settings

  16. DJ_GLiTCH Says:

    Haha, no apo… it won’t =[

I got rid of my old 128mb FX5200 a long time ago...

And NO ONE NEEDS F'ING VISTA!! Like yes, it may support future games but what about the old ones that some of us like? The ones that aren't supported? It's just bulls**t... but it does look fancy, I'll give it that, haha =]

  17. Ben Says:

Hmm, regarding vista, I find it easier to work with than XPSP2, and I havent had any compatibility issues with it as of yet. As for the FX5200, I doubt you’ll be able to run crysis. I recommend upgrading to something in your PCI-E slot. If you dont have a PCI-E slot, Id recommend a new motherboard. On one of my older rigs, I did get oblivion to run, however, on lowest settings, so there may still be hope for you. Heres the older rig’s specs:
    512MB RAM
    PC100 Mobo
    Evga eGeforce FX5200 PCI
    PIII 1.0Ghz, o/ced to 1.2Ghz
    DVD x12 drive

  18. MyNAMe Says:

    “DX10 is only software tho!”

Hahaha *big laughs*, sure it’s software, however it’s the basic software on which your card runs, that is, it’s linked deep with your hardware, it’s what controls your hardware.

I think it’s a shame DX10 is Vista-only, but then again, I can see the marketing strategy as well, Microsoft isn’t stupid. Otherwise nobody will switch to Vista, because obviously we aren’t waiting for Aero effect stuff that only makes our systems slower…
