First Wii Modchip Available Soon
February 2nd, 2007 by Matt Stone in News
The hackers and modders at WiiKey claim to have made the first fully functionable Wii modchip. It goes on sale February 7, and the tiny chip has only four wires. It can play backup copies of Wii and GameCube games using DVD-R or DVD+R disc. Of course, it’s all rumors at this point, as WiiKey has no images nor detailed specs of the modchip. They promise more information in the upcoming days on their site.

Sorry DB… man, I know you guys are updating your servers and all but the last week has been horrendous for news…. flaming aside:
This is not the first modchip for the Wii… arguably… the first modchip to come out for wii is the wiinja, second to come out cyclowiz, third is wiikey. This is all based on day of official announcement.
Grain of salt, all this is pretty much heresay until chips start arriving and testing is really done instead of blatant advertising plugs that some news sites have been prone to the last week… meh.
Says:
MEH.
And anyway, until someone comes out with a region free solution to the Wii… its still a no go for me, even if it is updatable. Features and prices are soon gonna roll….

The GameCube was so easy to hack, it only took a software hack to be able to play games from other regions. The Wii is just a bit more powerful GC, so it’s of no surprise that a modchip is out, heck they already hacked Virtual Console titles.

[...] Since we mentioned the WiiKey modchip, supposedly the smallest and first modchip, a new chip is already on the market, and it’s proven technology. The chip, called CycloWiz, costs only $40 and makes it possible to play Wii/GameCube backup games without problems, although for some reason you cannot play imported or homebrew games. MaxConsole has an in-depth review. You can order the chip here. Bookmark: Tagged: Modchip, Technology, Wii Comment on this story Note: Keep the language as clean as possible and respect others. There is no nice way to put this so here it goes…
WE HAVE BEEN WARNING ALL OF YOU ABOUT CYCLOWIZ FROM THE BEGINNING!!!
The company behind the chip, Divineo, also sponsors, funds, and hosts the “MaxCuntzl” website. Take a look at the banner ads and news posts there if you need any proof. You’ll note numerous “news” posts that are nothing more than cleverly disguised ads for Divineo products. For example, their “review” of the CycloWiz.
We have been telling all along that “Team Cyclops” is just in it for the money. The specs changed as soon as the Wiikey was announced. They obviously tacked on extra features just to compete with the Wiikey. Numerous established sceners have come forward to question the “upgrade” functionality of the chip. Shipments were delayed numerous times.
These people do not support anyone who buy their chips, plain and simple. It obviously doesn’t matter whether you ordered one chip or hundreds. They are a piece of shit company. Why do you think other big modchip shops cancelled all their customers CycloWiz orders and replaced them with Wiikey? It had nothing to do with the “quality” of the chip, it was about the “quality” of customer service. There have been numerous lies and delays not just to the people BUYING the chips but to the shops SELLING them as well.
As for Wiinja, the price cut has been expected for a while now. The D2B issue hit all of the modchip manufacturers pretty hard and that is why chips are only now beginning to ship to both shops and regular customers.
