Capcom Spent $20 Million On Lost Planet Marketing

If you’ve wondered how come a mediocre game like Lost Planet sold a million copies so fast, just take a look at the huge marketing budget Capcom had. They spent $20 million developing the game, and then spent another $20 million promoting the game. That made Lost Planet appear all over the news and media, especially around launch time. Last year Capcom had revenues of $600 million and profits of $58 million. Their major market is still Japan, but recent titles like Resident Evil 4, Dead Rising and Lost Planet, all sold over a million copies in North America, making Capcom a big player in the west as well.

    MS junkies on a binge just before being sent on a little Junkett to a Lost Planet after turning over all their money to Bill Gates to allow them to throw a Pie in his Face! XBUCKS 360 is certainly done well for him! Don’t you think? Capcom Who? Don’t they make Beavis and Butthead cartoons?

    come on guys, haven’t you seen the ads for lost planet? they are wicked, awesome! i spat i the tea form my mouth and said: i’m gonna get that game! (none of that really happened) though the actual game, however good, isn’t gonna be AS good as those adverts looked

    … Thats generally the job of advertising. To get someone to think a little about what they saw, so that next time they have a choice to make were the product in question is involved they will feel some familiarity with the porduct.

    A high selling game doesn’t always means its good. Look at Driv3r. Some of the best games of all time are busts in terms of sales. Capcom did a good job of marketing a lack luster game but I wish they wouldv’e went all out with a better game like Resident Evil 4. We are entering an era of gaming where games don’t have too be good at all and sell simply off marketing and hype. They don’t even show gameplay anymore in game commercials!
