N-Gage 2 Coming Later This Year

Nokia seems to be eager to release a follow up to one of the biggest flops in handheld gaming (besides Gizmondo, of course). While everyone knows that the N-Gage was a piece of rubbish; only managing to sell under two million units, far less than Nokia anticipated. Apparently that doesn’t discourage them from giving it another try, as the N-Gage 2 is coming later this year, according to the official N-Gage blog.

Only two publishers are supporting the platform at the moment, EA, with their EA Mobile brand, which isn’t surprising at all, and the mobile game publisher Gameloft. Nokia will have to get support from more publishers with great titles in order to sell its new handheld. But seeing how the original N-Gage had decent games, it still flopped. The competition from Nintendo and Sony is simply to much, the N-Gage 2 will most certainly cost more than the DS and PSP.

It is nice to see this, but I wonder why they would try to take on Nintendo. You can forget about Sony for the moment as the PSP is not really a player as of now. Nokia will fail with this one too because most of us, me included, do not want a device that can do EVERYTHING. I like having seperate gadgets for music, games, etc. If you have everything wrapped into one if somethins goes wrong you loose them all. Take for instance the Iphone; great concept and tech but in the end the flaw will be the battery. I do not want my phone tied to my music player… inless you sell me an Ipod at a cheaper price that can make calls too for free or piggy-back on the service I already own… Nokia should stick to phones and leave the gaming to Big N.

^unfortunetly for the people like yourself and i (prefer seperate devices), companies prefer to throw things they want you to think you need…and people are brainwashed enough to take it, there are so many stupid people in this world its amazing.

How can they be so naive? Anything with the name “N-Gage” will flop. They might have a tiny chance if they just drop the the brand altogether.

But competing with the DS? Gimme a break, if it was possible to compete with the DS, you’d see a portable Xbox from MS long time ago.

I just hope they don’t do what they did last time. I HAD the N-gage and the QD. They keep selling it as a gaming system with a cell phone as an extra. But if you ever had an N-Gage then you know it was the other way around. It was a cell phone (not a bad one at that) with handheld system as an extra. The games were cool but not many to choose from. What they need to do is make the best gaming handheld (if thats possable) And then worry about the Cell phone crap. I remember them talking about the PSP was supposed to have Cell phone capabilities. That was like a year ago or so. If this does come out then ill prolly get it. I loved the Mods that came out for the N-Gage. the NES, SNES, Sega genesis. I’m eager to see whats next.

Really the only way to make this idea work is if nintendo lets someone make a phone that takes gameboy advance cartridges.

  6. Nokia immune to shock therapy. at mendax.org Says:

[...] mongrel wearing a shock collar, Nokia runs past the electrical fence of the mobile phone yard and tries to get a piece of the handheld gaming market flying down the road. Really, it hasn’t been that long since [...]

all you haters are nuts. the ngage is a great phone, even today. in fact, i can’t think of another phone that’s any better now, mp3’s, which you can use as for ringtones, good games, great homebrew support and a fm radio. all you need is the camera, and it’s on and poppin.
the only draw back (MMC). if nokia adds SD support. i might just pick that one up for myself.
