Sony Stupid Comment #128

In an interview with EGM, Sony’s Jack Tretton said that he’d give anyone $1200 bucks if they could find a PlayStation 3 on a shelf anywhere in the U.S. Now, Tretton was either at sleep for the past few months or he is one very disillusioned executive to give a statement like that. PS3s have floated all around the U.S. for almost two months now. The Penny Arcade guys went and found 11 systems available in stores around town in one hour, making Tretton owe them some $13k. Will this stupidity from Sony ever end? Or perhaps he just confused the PS3 with the Wii. In that case, it’s perfectly understandable.

The Sony stupidity will never end. Really, when the PS3 has failed and out of production, when no one is making games for the system, Sony will still be there, saying “The PS3 is doing great”
Much like the Iraqi propaganda minister was saying they were defeating the Americans, before a single shot was fired.
I thought of getting a PS3, but the past few month I realized if I get one I would be the dumbest gamer on earth. If the PS3 fell to $100 per console I would not buy one. Not for $10.

Actually I will (even though I’m not an Xbox fan), maybe not the $10 one, But I wouldn’t get a PS3 for $100 either. Why? Because it offers nothing worthwhile to me. I could care less for the game selection, I don’t have enough faith in Bluray yet to get for that reason. All of it’s other features can be done (and done better in some cases) on my computer. The only thing that I can see it possibly providing me is social prestige, but even that isn’t worth $100 to me. The worth of a product isn’t what it costs to sell, and it isn’t what it costs to produce. The worth of a product is what the consumers are willing to pay for it.

Since I could only find the customer service number I called them. This is what happened.
Sony: Thank you for calling Sony. How can I help you this afternoon?
Me: Yes I wanted to know how I could collect my $1200 for every PS3 that I found in stores for longer than 5 minutes.
Sony: Huh?
Me: The new EGM magazine had the Sony President stating…

Sony: What’s EGM?
Me: A gaming magazine, it�s fairly popular. You can pretty much find it anywhere, just look for the newest issue.
Sony: Hold on a second, let me talk to somebody.
[On hold for 3 minutes.]
Sony: Where did you see this again? You know we are customer service right?
Me: Yes I know, but I couldn’t find any other phone number.

Me: Oh sorry, it’s a gaming magazine, you can find it anywhere.
Sony: Alright hold on again please.
[On hold again for a few minutes.]
Sony: I’m sorry sir but you’ll have to contact EGM magazine. Sony doesn’t condole this statement.
Me: But the Sony President said it, shouldn’t you obey it?
Sony: I’m sorry, but you need to contact EGM. Whatever was said in there is not our problem.
Me: Hmmmm I guess titles don’t mean anything to Sony too.
[Long pause.]
Sony: Is there anything else I could help you with?
Me: Do you have any way I could reach Mr. Tretton?
Sony: Sir I can’t help you with this, anything in EGM does not pertain to Sony.
Me: Alright I will get a hold of EGM and get my money from you guys. Sorry for calling you, but I thought you could help me since Mr. Tretton worked for Sony and this is a Sony phone number.
Sony: Is there anything else I could help you with?
Me: If I can’t get Mr. Tretton’s number then that is all.
Sony: Thank for you calling sir and have a nice day.
Me: You too, thanks.

The whole point is that you can find PS3 in stores everywhere, no matter when it was said or by whom.
Every time you see someone writing so much lines and so many curses to the others to defend his opinion only one thing comes out, not even he is convinced on what he is saying. There are some guys that should learn when to give up.
Of course Sony is a multibillion company, but not thanks to PS3; and that’s why this forum is for, shouldn’t such comments belong to another place? No one is denying their success as company.
Maybe PS3 gains market share, who knows? But right now there is no clear strategy shown on how this multibillion company is going to achieve such thing, only guesses. Accept one thing, they have it hard.

Monarky: A) There were many PS3s available Januar 2nd. B) Those motion patents were for the PS2, but Sony abandoned the idea because they thought it was too risky. Not to mention that the motion sensors are incorparated (placed on) into the controller rather than intergrated (built as a part of) it. C) i’ll give you this one. Balmer is a monkey. D) PS3 is going nowhere, simply because it has nothig to offer. Don’t get me wrong, I am no fan of Microsoft, but the fact of the matter is that the 360 has numerous games, a better internet service, HDDVD, a more comfortable controller (for me at least, I’m not sure about others), a lower cost, and a one year headstart, although Microsoft didn’t do much with it.

Xbox 360 launch = 1 good game
PS3 launch = 1 good game
Xbox 360 one year later = Gears of War
PS3 one year later = HASNT HAPPENED YET!
Theres never nothing to offer at launch but ONE good game, thats how things work, you have to fucking wait, the 360s launch lineup was just as depressing as the ps3s. Saying the ps3 has nothing to offer is not really fair at this point, let a year pass, see what happens, and then tell me that there is nothing to offer.
Would you argue if a year ago I said the xbox 360 had nothing to offer?

I beg to differ about the 360 launch … there were at least four pretty decent games available at launch at times and depending on if you like PDZ there were at least five.

Call of Duty 2
Dead or Alive 4
NBA 2k6
Need for Speed
At least I think these were pretty good games on the 360 and some people liked others so imho there was definitely more than one good game available for the 360 during the launch window.

Only one game you mentioned is exclusive for X360 that being Project Gotham! It was a poor launch, just admit it! Remember I had a working X360 and went through months of playing Geometry Wars just like everyone else till my “Error 71″ bricking! Project Gotham although a good game is not a killer ap make. Side by side with GT-HD, Motorstorm, Formula One Championship Edition can’t even be compared in the same field of games.
GT-HD is more real than real in some ways. All new content coming in March racing has never been this good on any platform! Now that’s not only a PS3 launch game, but it’s FREE! Beat that!

Pdz is possibly one of the worst games I’ve ever played. Doa 4 was post launch and looks pretty but isn’t great.
I agree on project gotham I really liked that up until test drive unlimited.

Sure those games are good but there not “must own” games aside from call of duty 2, which wasnt really exclusive, being as it was on the pc and all, just like condemed and need for speed.

That is what I said … and I wasn’t talking about exclusive titles at all since josh did not say anything about that and I was mainly answering his claim that there was only ONE good title available for 360 owners to purchase. Really I do not care about exclusive titles that much. Once a person buys a console they just want games they haven’t played before and in the case of lots of 360 owners at the time they bought their 360 they may not have had a gaming PC so they more than likely played the games for the first time on the 360. CoD2 was different on other consoles. NFS came out at the same time on all platforms as did NBA2K6 so 360 owners would not have played the games primarily on another platform so in this case the whole multi-platform argument matters not. Plus all the games I listed that had other console ports looked way better on the 360 as the next gen graphics were very apparent. This was unlike GUN or King Kong which I did NOT list. Really I could have listed Quake IV as well since a lot of people who had a 360 but not a powerful PC really enjoyed this game as well.
Again I was talking about good (not great) ones available in the launch window and DOA4 made the launch window since it shipped by end of 2005. There were no GREAT games for the console until Oblivion and GRAW appeared. CoD2 was about as good as it got on the 360 and it was just shy of great imo. Actually I enjoyed Condemned more but that is mainly because I prefer playing the lone hero type.

You XBOX360 owners are all dumb and naive `cos Xbox has released all of its “best games” if you can call em that but ps3 are releasing there games slowly to prolong the life of the console and hey xbox360 owners i bet you cant wait for metal gear solid 4 or GTA4 to be released on your conso- oh wait a minute the’re ps3 exclusives.
