For several weeks in a row, the DS and Wii have been dominating the Japanese hardware sales charts, and last week was no exception. The DS Lite is, totally unexpected, once again the top seller, followed by the Wii.

If… I…..had….invested….. Seriously though, it looks as though the Japanese don’t ever go for the lower model. Poor DS, it did worse than the ‘Cube, that’s gotta hurt.

Ever seen a Japanese person do math? Besides, PS3 was made in Japan.

Japan has always been a very big and influential market for games.

Japanese kids start their education at 3 I believe, not pre-school crap either. How else are thye going to entertain themselves when they aren’t doing homework? Plus its a small country, all those people need to do something while cramped up on the subways/trains and whatnot.

“Japan has always been a very big and influential market for games.”
Not now or ever from where I live… this site should realise that.

“Not now or ever from where I live… this site should realise that.”
Well I guess the site doesn’t live where you live.
Why don’t you explain why Japan isn’t what we think it is?

Japan has always been a leading market for the games industry.
The more interesting observation is how Ps3 is doing over there. Japan has traditionally been dominated by sony (at least last generation is was) and its their home market.plus look at US sales figures ps3 isn’t doing well there either
Japs are also much more technology orientated than we are so if they don’t care about bluray its a problem.
Like it or not europe is no 3 games market so figures from japan and america are very relevant to how things do here

nintendo got lucky creating the ds LITE if it wasnt for the lite the ds would be down down down in the fiery pitts of the hall of shame where sega, the xbox, the gamecube, the virtual boy and other failed inventions are!

Use common sense please, Many of those people who got DS lites would have still bought regular DSs if the Lite wasn’t available. i’m not saying all of them would, but a majority.

John q DS Lite launched in 2006 and DS in March 2005. DS has been dominating the PSP in the handheld market since Autumn 2005 so how does the DS Lite saving them work ?
Oh sorry I forgot blind Sony fanboydom means you have to make ridiculous sweeping statements to enforce the fact that you have based your somewhat empty lives around worship of an electronics brand

Shortage of lack of demand?

Two points.
1 - PS3 is readily available across the US wheras you can’t get a Wii anywhere because they are selling as fast as they are shipped. So how come Wii is in the top ten and PS3 isn’t. Perhaps your fanboy logic can answer this one
2 - The fact you just called me a noob proves without a doubt that you are a 15 year old virgin who spends too much time in World of Warcraft

I don’t think he can.
