Developer Level-5, makers of the Dragon Quest series and Dark Cloud 2, have probably released one of the last great Japanese PS2 RPG games, Rogue Galaxy.
GameSpot (80/100) “The PlayStation 2 has delivered an almost countless number of high-quality Japanese role-playing games, so all the past competition is really the main reason why Rogue Galaxy doesn’t come off as a stunning accomplishment.”
IGN (87/100) “Rogue Galaxy definitely brings the noise to longtime RPG fans. Though its storyline isn’t on the same level as other great PS2 games in the genre, its mixture of strong combat mechanics, addictive sidequests, and absolutely stunning visual style more than makes up for what it doesn’t do”
Eurogamer (70/100) “That the game tries its hand so many ideas that Final Fantasy XII does better (the licence board, the bounty hunting, the political wrangling, the real-time battle mechanics) is unfortunate.”
GameSpy (90/100) “Rogue Galaxy’s greatest triumph, the brightest gleam in its eye, is that at sixty hours of play I’ve got another sixty I could easily pour in”
